Wheel offset, What the...

There's been a fair bit of talk on various car forums I go to with wheel offsets.
Can some1 post a pic of the actual measurement the offset is? I thought all 18" * 8.0" rims (for example) were the same in overall size, but I have since learnt that's not so. 2 same sized rims might not fit on the same car.

I had this problem with my old lancer with 17 * 7's. The tyre place told me 17's fit but afterwards they said, oops, they don't fit, go get ya guards rolled. Heaps of other people had 17's with no issues, and even 18's with very little or no rubbing issues.

Can some1 clear this up so next time I buy rims for my ride I get the right size from the start.

yep offfset is how far in or out the wheel will sit once u bolt it in place. front wheels drives are usually of the higher offset +45 ish espcially hondas.

Yes - offset is important. Presumably you are asking this about the Euro. It is a good idea to get +45 and up to +55. Don't go too wide on the rims either - I personally wouldn't fit wider than 7.5" but lots of people have 8" too.

If you fit the wrong offset it can lead to all sorts of suspension or wheel bearing problems. It also changes the handling characteristics of the car.

Here is a wild +12 offset fit on the Euro (the person did this for fun)...
