    Are my rings gone?

As some of you know i put my car on the dyno on saturday. Everytime adrain did a run and backed off, lots of white smoke came out the exhaust. The engine is from a b16a from an eg6.

Some people say its my rings or pistons that are gone.
How can i really determine if its the rings/ pistons?
Will a compression test tell me for sure?

I've had the car for a few months and have not done an oil change. But i know its been over 5000kms. Before i went on saturday i thought i would add a little more oil. When i got back on saturday i checked my oil level and it was just above the top marker ( a few mm).

Will overfilling oil cause alot of smoke on back off??
The top marker means the oil is full right?

I spoke to one of the mechanics at Hanny's and hes and its common to blow smoke and that it may be that the oil cannot handle the tempreature. He recomended changing the oil and seeing if that fixes the prolbem.

He said to use some honda oil or fully-synthetic elf that they just got in.

yes overfilling will - since the excess oil is injected back into the inlet manifold from "blowby" (thru the PCV system)... Try changing your oil with Honda FEO or similar , and top up to only the top level or slightly below -

if ur rings are gone u would have lost compression. THis would have shown on the dyno dude, howm uch power did u make?

91.8fwkw. stock b16a with full exahaust. stock intake.

that sounds right for about stock eg6... cos i think jdm b16a are 125kw at wheels... minus about 25-27% drivetrain loss ur motor is performing within original specs

if ur piston rings are indeed blown and engine oil is getting into the wrong places, and u have lowered compression, noway u'd be making this kinda figure

were u using a dyno dynamics dyno?

yep dyno dynamics in shootout mode.

i'd say based on ur dyno figures there can be no way ur car has blwon piston rings. I could be wrong cos i aint no expert though.

But i have seen ppl with blown piston rings on b16As. The whole exhaust flutters and makes a "burping sound" like the turbo cars, and the car makes shitall power.

I would guess its cos u overfilled ur oil level. And yes i know u've checked the oil level, but are u doing this when the car is hot/cold/warm? it matters. I cant remember when ur meant to check ti tho :P.

drive train loss occurs before power gets to the wheels.

errr... wots ur point dude? sorry but thast a little captain obvious cos i know drivetrain loss occurs there. But neway, in case i confused anyone at all

    Here was my reasoning

    stock EG6 JDM b16A pulls 125kw OEM

presume 25% loss on a dyno dynamics dyno...

    0.75 x 125 = 93.75kw

he is pulling 91kw at wheels, which is NEAR enough to OEM specs to presume nothing is majorly wrong with the engine.

so his car is performing within (near enough) to original engine specs for me to reason that his piston rings are not blown. if his piston rings were blown, there is no way he could generate enough compression to make 91kw at wheels.

thats y i asked him if he was using dyno dynamics, to see if my assumption of 25% loss could be applied to the scenario.

u had ur car dyno'd at TODA right?
my car has the same prob... they thought i might have blown piston rings too but after dyno result they reckoned its all good...

    Q:
what happens when u drive down hill for a good amount of time say in a lower gear and when u get to the bottom and press the accel and it blows alot of smoke??... this has happened to me twice now....
i drive down hill alot though

it was just your wording ghost, JDM B16A make 125kw at the flywheel not the wheels
