What's the best system I can get for XXXX dollars?

A few things to remember before you galavant off through this thread:

    1. These costs are at full retail and do not include labour charges at all. The more complex and intricate your system design becomes, the higher the labour costs will become.

    2. These systems are based on the posters personal aural tastes. This may radically change depending on your own tastes.

    3. This is a ROUGH guide. It is more than likely that your personal system will differ from the ones listed.

    4. I have listed 12's for my sub of choice below. A 12 might not be desirable due to space restricitons etc.

Disagree with some of those as shown above. If you're after a SQ system and you're spending nearly $10K, why would you bother buying the Pioneer DEH-P1Y when the DEH-P8650MP is exactly the same as the DEH-P9650MP and they have both won SQ awards for 2003 and 2004. The price difference between P1Y and 8650MP is about $150.

And the AVH-P6650DVD is like a DEH-P4750MP (a entry level type unit) and when you spend $10K again, wouldnt you just buy the top of the range unit: AVH-P7550DVD or AVH-P7650DVD?...

J-MuN, define the term 'correct' for me please?

I could not help but notice like many people you too didn't take the time to fully read the intro spiel at the top. Let me just reiterate again what point 2 states:

    2. These systems are based on the posters personal aural tastes. This may radically change depending on your own tastes.

The term 'these systems' are chosen based on what my customers have most commonly chosen for their systems based on a certain budget. Now in your dig at us I’m assuming you’ve based your comments purely on sheer quality of components (such as DAC's for example). Real world customers like different components depending on what type of person they are (this encompasses both their aural and visual tastes) and this is why the spiel also makes reference to personal choice.

But thank you for keeping us all on our toes. Perhaps you're correct when stating the thread is inappropriately titled. Would you be happier if I titled the FAQ "What's the most commonly sought system for XXXX dollars"? Would that suit you better?
