I can't tell you exactly where as I don't have a civic/know much about them - but the engine code would be imprinted on the engine block block, on my car, from memory- I think it's on the drivers side about mid-way down.
someone with a civic i'm sure can tell you where to look exactly
or just tell you based on your description ^_^

D15B4 Dual Carb Emission Controlled SOHC 16 Valve... Around 75Kw from the factory.
Pretty good motor but they have a bad oil consuption habit after 200,000+K's

I suggest a 2" exhaust system and a decent tune up if you want to modify it.

Amazing enough, these cars have an ECU. Lift up the passenger side carpet under the dashboard. You will find a metal plate with a round hole in it. When the ignition is on, check to see if the red light inside this hole is flashing... If so, you have a fault code stored.
I would guess that the Exhaust Gas Oxgen(EGO) Sensor in your exhaust manifold is contaminated, that your mechanical fuel pump is playing up or that you have not replaced your fuel filter/spark plugs in a while... Most likely the fuel filter or spark plugs.

Fuel filter is located on the fuel tank, behind a black plastic cover. Couple of 10mm bolts to get it out and about $8 for a new one from most auto part stores.
