Knocking when car goes over humps

I've just DIY some springs onto the car and everytime I go over a hump, a knocking sound comes out from behind the rear seats. I tried to replicate the sound by bouncing the car up and down and left and right but I couldn't get the sound out, only happens when the car goes over a hump or raised part of a road.

I've doubled and tripled checked all the bolts and they are tight, the springs are sitting nicely. Only thing I need to mention is I had to remove one of the rear linkages to remove the whole spring/shock assembly but that's about it.

Any ideas what that could be?

I know you didn't touch the sway bar but it is worth re-tightening it -

Remember I had a similar knock on mine? Just a fraction of a turn made all the difference.

when you jack your car up off the ground, is there still load on the springs or they just sitting losely?

IMO , the sprigns are not sitting correctly in the seats , and are moving around when under that bound/rebound situation.

OR swaybar is rubbing onto the shock etc.

Get under and make sure everythign is tight and well held ! Also , take out the rear shocks AGAIN and make sure they are captivly held ~ and that they are sitting firm into the lower spring seat (the coil should be firm into the lowest part)

OR they are progressive springs and rub/hit eacn other when spring compresses over a bump. i had same problem, i was going nuts, sounded exactly like a box of springs in the boot moving around. problem was fixed by buying some rubber and putting it around the top coils. whiteline sells these spring insulators or get rubber piping and cut in half n glue it

There is still load on the spring....

I'm pretty sure the springs are sitting nicely on the seats as I've observed no such movements...

I think I'm gonna do what you advise then, re-install the whole assembly again and see what happens... Grrr.... so hard to do on Honda Suspension....

Does it sound as if it is a metal on metal clapping noise when going over those small metal bolt into the ground speed humps? But not over just road bumps?

If so, Ill reply in more detail next time I come online as Lost is about to start.

Ok removed everything now, only can see two things, the gathered coils are so close together they knock and the Free Length of the coil is not long enough during decompression against the shocks and thus it's loose and bouncing on the assembly when the system is being decompressed fully....

Just sent an email to King Springs to see what they can do for me.....

Had it fixed under warranty;

Apparantly the gathered coils on the top of the springs were too close together, luzinit was spot on and nylon wraps were put over the coils to reduce the noise when the knock.. All good now

hey mate i got kings in my dc5s as well and heard the knocking noise when i had 2 passengers in the rear and a full tank of fuel. you wrote that you sent an email to king springs, did they do the nylon wrap things or did you do it? ive only had it done 1 week now. Also if you leave it will it cause damage to anything as i rarely carry passengers anyway. Thanks

The nylon wrap is known as spiroband. You can buy it from Jaycar Electronics!
