A'pexi thatks understanding that i did say a vtir and not a dc2r
all the other's thx for reply's.

the reason im asking is i went to look at a vtir, went i got there it was sold,
so i went to the toyota dealer next door and the offered me a 2001 celica sx
with only 38,000 km for $26,000. i then rang around for insurence and the new celica was cheaper then a vtir by $1200, its hard for me to get a price on insurence coz i have had a few clams b4.

    ummm....
do u guys kno the celica specs at all
    tru it mite have 140kw
but the vvtl-i doesnt kick in till 6000-6200rpm
have u guys seen them perform? well i have and lol u should see them struggle to go uphill whereas even the VTECs with same or less displacement dont
also apparently on paper the celica does high 15s - low 16s
i think u all kno what the Vti-R DC2 does
so i wont need any explaining on the performance rite?

i've heard in reviews of the Corolla sportivo (same engine and gearbox as celica) that the narrow powerband means its a real bugger to drive fast unless you're on a track, i.e., to keep it in the powrband you have to keep on the throttle and shift at redline....

as soon as you lift off you;re off the boil...

I would say Celica over VTi-R

6 speed - vvti! - responds well to I/H/E mods like the DC5R
It's only slower because the gearing is taller - good for FI

However, honda's have more Aftermarket bits for it, but definately nothing wrong with TRD - so depends on what your goal is.

Personally I'd say buy property and drive a shitbox.

Celica???????????? Hair dresser's special????????????
No hot bits whatsoever! Not even TRD! Ever since Toyota stopped rallying
Celica - no performance parts development. Full stop!
Also, Celica's engine power delivery is miles behind Honda.
Poor torque and the 6sp gear box????????????

there's still aftermarket parts for the celica, but just not as much

i would say go celica...they are a good looking car, for some reason, personally i wouldn't want to drive one...
