Well I have just had my 1st service, i busted the mechanics balls about this he basically said dc5 r has a cut off system at i think 8500rpm or 9000 i cant remember the car can hanlde way more than that, also he mentioned the honda engines are probably one of the strongest engines today, u can thrash them redline them and they will still be running fine for years to come.......

I drove my DC2 quite hard in my point of view. Regular redlining and now at 70k the engine still runs STRONG! The engine itself is built to stand that kinda punishment anyway and I think we should drive it the way it is built

Of course I still do the basic maintinance such as changing the oil, filters etc
warming up and cooling the car down

I haven't read most of the replies, but just want to say this.

This may come as a shock for some of you, but engines are destructable! :P For some reason guys think VTEC's are indestructible. Yes you can hit VTEC everyday but if you drive like an idiot and bounce off the rev limiter all the time you will eventually blow the engine. If you regularly service the car and let it warm up etc before hitting VTEC, generally the engine will last a very long time. I used to hit VTEC in mine each time i drove it. Without fail. And never once did i have a problem or have to replace anything on the engine. But i didn't redline it each time and i didn't trash the car.

mines reaching 145,000k, boosted for 7k now. whooaa. no using one bit of oil either and im still running 5w30.

Just keep the maintenance up, always be aware of of sounds and the feeling of your car. If something doesnt feel right, check it out, and dont just think if it goes away that its all good again

you're right Vic, engine's are destructible. However i haven't heard of a Honda engine crap itself because it was thrashed if that engine was well maintained and serviced.

In fact, it is worse for the engine if you drive like a granny and never engage VTEC, as things start seizing.

So feel free to give it a thrash now and then, though i cant bring myself to beat the crap out of the car non-stop

vic is smolking bluntz again me finks, what u mean destructable??

thx for the responses, MUCH appreciated!

when u guys say maintain it regularly, how often would that be? every 5-6000km's?? cause honda's scheduled is every 10,000km

Some people does it evey 5000k so they have good history when they want to re-sell..
but for me, I just do it every 10.000k or whenever the oil is bad
