    2006 Honda Civic VTi

    wheels for '06 civic?

    hey guys,

i have been given a spetember delivery date for my 06civic...i got the VTi model which means it comes with 15" steels and hub caps (eek!). I am already over budget but there is no way im gonna drive this thing without alloys...so the question is....

    Do i get

    1. Honda 15" alloys (like the VTi-L model) for 900 (inc tyres)
    2. Honda 16" alloys (like the Civic Sport) for 1200 (ex tyres, another 600 for tyres??)
    3. Aftermarket weel + tyre combo? (prolly about $1300-1400 inc tyres)

I really dont want to spend more than about $1200 and the 15" honda rims are looking tempting as id prefer honda rims..

    what'ya reckon?

    thanks

I seriously reckon it is not wise to buy those honda rims from the dealer. for 1.2g u may be better off buying some nice 16-17 inch rims for your civic. however if u really want to buy those factory rims wait and see it some people are selling them second hand. Because 900-1200 imo is just too expensive.

I'd pick 3... but can you really get decent aftermarket wheels+tyres for $1300-1400 (for all 4 wheels)?!

I was under the impression that half-decent wheels (and tyres) would set me back around $2-3k.

i bought my rims for 1200$ 16' including tryes. and they rims are awesome.

Your best bet would be to go for option 3. as there is so many more styles + colours. you could be choosing from.

    1200- 1500$

will get you a nice set of 16' or 17' rims.
not being a smart ass... but is that what vtec feels like? turning the aircon off?

$1000 will fetch you a 16" wheel+tyre+balancing+fitting package from tempe tyres, $1200 for 17". just to give you an idea...

Anyone got some pics of their alloy tyre combos??

Anyone wish to part with set of alloys from sports model civic? Or they just that good.

Tempe Tyres have really good deals on their website, much cheaper than JDM...:P and their combos with the tyres and fitting and nuts are really appealing. But do those wheels fit the 06 civic properly? they didnt mention a offset etc. on the website. I would rather go on steelies then something that might affect my car negatively.

i think they'd be able to fix the offset for you, either by using offset plates or ordering the wheel with the correct offset "built in". might be worth firing off an email? (once you've picked which one you've liked )

If performance is a consideration, I wouldn't touch those heavy cast rims at all imo - with a 1.8L engine and 16-17" rims you'll lose like heaps of torque! But I conceded that forged rims or even just superlight rims are beyond your budget of just $1000-ish unfortunately - you'll be looking at close to $3-4k for forged rims w/o rubber.

    all the best

    cheers

Do those lightweight forged rims really make that much of a difference compared to normal cast rims? i know that they will make a difference because they are lighter but for (eg.)3.5g for a set of 17inch volk Te37 with no tyres really worth it?
