Hunting idle during cold start [D16y1]

    Hey guys.

Ill start off with some important info

    Car: 93 EG VTi
    Engine: D16y1
    Km: 91,xxx
    ECU Fault codes: None

    So my problem is this:

When i start the car, the car revs up to 2000 rpm, is then quickly drops down to 1500 then revs itself back up to 2000. It will cycle in this fashion about 5 times till it finally settles at its prefered rpm. If remain untouched, it will stay at its cold idle rpm till its warmed up and drop to 750.

Problem is, everytime i accelerate (to drive somewhere or even in neutral) the car has to go through these cycles again. Not only is this embarrasing at the lights (it sound like im reving the car over and over when i come to a stop) and possibly get me introuble with the cops (when i rev it next to them) but i also think its not good for the car.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be. Thanks for any help

From the top of my head try some of these steps:

    1. Check for vacuum leaks/ replace vacuum lines
    2. Pull off the IACV and use carby cleaner to clean out the carbon deposits.
    3. Check Timing Belt/Timing, just to make sure it hasnt jumped a tooth
    4. Valve Adjustment to specs
    5. Reset ECU prob something you can try at the start
    6. Try another known working ECU
    7. Leak down test to test cylinder head/valve leakage

Also cleaning the throttle body should help.
