    Climate Control

Hi guys, just have a question about the climate control system. When you push the AUTO button and set the temperature, the only display that appears in the screen is the word "AUTO" and the temperature selected. Is this normal. I have had other cars with climate control and when operating in the AUTO mode, it also shows fan speed, airflow direction and also if the A/C has benn turned on. Hope someone out there can enlighten me.

Yes mine is the same as yours. I only get the extra info if and when I manually override.

When you switch climate control on, it doessn't show fan speed etc because the idea is you pick the temperature, the system's job is to automatically adjust everything else to reach and maintain your selected temparature. The fan will go up and down depending on what needs to happen.

Personally I don't really use the acc. I either have the aircon on or off and adjust the fan when I feel like it.

    What YouRow said.

From memory, the E46 3-series would show you what it was doing, and my old Berlina would too. I guess the designers thought that in Auto mode, the driver wouldn't want to be bothered by such mundane details as your HVAC settings.

In my case, I typically leave my CC set at 22C, AC off, Fan speed 1 during the winter months, and bump up the fan speed on cold nights/cold starts to get the cabin warmed up more quickly. I typically only use Auto when I want AC.

In my previous car(E46) it was as you said shows everything, but as you say all i get is auto as well. I've been told by the dealer if you use the auto button the A/C is automatically switched on.

That's correct. The AC kicks in as soon as you hit the 'Auto' button. You can override it by pressing the AC button. You'll see 'AC OFF' in the display if you do that.

Same thing when you press the front demist button - the AC kicks in automatically. I hate that. But fortunately, again you can override it if you want to.

When you guys say 'Kick In' do you actually feel the air-conditioning come on through the accelerator? I know this happens to me and I find it very annoying.. I thought Euro's were DBW, if so why do I get feedback from the airconditioning through my pedals? I know it happens to me when I drive other cars (non-dbw).

I get the same feeling. It's just a vibration from the compressor and only lasts 1 second anyway. The type of throttle has nothing to do with the a/c as it's just a vibration through the car body.

Are you sure about that? As when I'm at a standstill, red lights for example, I dont feel it through my break / clutch pedal?

yeah im pretty sure ive felt the ac shift the pedal - but it was the brake pedal, not the accelerator. i guess the loss of engine power effects the brake booster or something.

Hi guys, i'm sure this has been covered before, i'm sure that i read that the accelerator is actually connected to a throttle module in the engine bay by a cable. That is, there is no cable connecting the throttle body to the accelerator pedal but there is still a cable into the engine bay from the accelerator pedal. Correct me if i'm wrong

In any event i also get a grinding feel in the accelerator pedal when the ac is turned on. Just always assumed that it was the ac compressor kicking in
