Upgrading from Focal 165A1 to Focal 165V2/V3

    Hi Guys.

I've been playing with the idea of selling my current Focal 165A1s and buying some V2s...or even V3s (depending on the $$$)

My current setup is as follows:

    Headunit: Clarion DXZ856MP
    Front Speakers: Focal 165A1
    Rear Speakers: Focal 690CA
    Sub: Alpine Type S 12"
    Amp (mono block): Alpine MRP-M350
    Amp (4 channel): Alpine MRP-F345

I'm also about to sound deaden my doors and boot hopefully this month with some Dynamat

Do you guys reckon the swap is worth it? Like will I hear much difference in comparison to my current setup?

Also what would be the resale value of 165A1s??...theyr like 6 months old

165V2's sounded great to me, my only gripe was that it did get a bit too bright at higher volumes. Can't really compare them to 165CA1 since I havn't heard them...

i reckon the tweeter on the V2/V3 (TN47) is much better then the A1 (TN44), coz has got a very smooth freq response compare with the A1, if u need any focal range u can PM me

the A1's are definately a great speaker...and their performance without being powered by an amp is extremely surprising for what is considered an entry level speaker.

My mate recently got the V2s installed into his Integra...and in my mind the sound from them seems alot more "whole"...the mid tones are represented MUCH better than when using the A1s...and i got an overall sense that those speakers have more "kick" in them.

Haven't had a chance to listen to the V3s...but then again also haven't had a look at the price of them yet either, lol

Yea..I found that to be my main dislike of the A1...their tweeter sounds a little harsh...whatever one of the 3 db settings you choose.

Also i rkn the option of having mid-tone adjustability on the V2 crossover would compliment my setup well.

How do u think the V2s compare to the V3s?

i havent heard the A1's but ive got 165V slims (smaller version of 165V2) and i cant complain about them. they do have a good midrange especially and ide reccomend them over alpine type r's neday (and yes i know noone mesioned alpine its jus a comparison)... oh and here is a link to the 2006 focal pricelist for reference:

Well the guy whom I've bought every component of my sound system from is prepared to do me a rather good deal on the V2's. He is giving the 165V2S to me for $300...they retail for just shy of $500.

My budget isn't that big at all, since i dont want to go over my total budget for the car...which was 9k. Basically, I have $600 to play with for sound deadening + any front speaker better than 165A1. The Dynamat extreme pack is $300...and the 165V2S are also $300...so that suits me perfectly (i'll be installing both items with a mate hence no installation charge)

Any other front speaker you guys recommend for ~ $300 (im willing to go upto $400 max) that is extremely good for its price?
