umm this doesnt make much sense. VTEC doesn't really use much extra fuel as compared to a non vtec car....

I could push for 500kms/tank, but thats ultra granny driving, 600kms on a long trip(ie sydney to canberra) now its modded forget about it, 300 if im lucky, love that Vtec sound

Pretty funny (I actually drove my car with a lot of vtec but on long winding roads and got some of the best fuel economy ive ever got before (450km)
Maybe VTEC improves your fuel economy lol

dont you think so? its running on a longer duration cam, meaning its taking more air fuel mixture... that means more fuel use to me

It's all a relative measure. Just because you're on vtec doesn't mean that you're going to be using "more fuel" than if you weren't "on vtec". A non-VTEC engine producing similar torque at similar V.E. will be sucking in the same ammount of "air" therefore assuming correct tuning, will be sucking down the same ammount of fuel.
In the end, fuel consumption closly follows torque, and VTEC is honda's way of extending good V.E. up high in the rev range.
Also be careful thinking that longer duration == more air/fuel... Generalisations are bad mkay...

We all learn something new everyday.. I guess my car is about average in the sense of mileage..

NO.
I think "string" nailed this one.

who cares about petrol consumption, insurance is the killer.
Thats my biggest expense.

Geez, thats alot of mileage. How do you achieve those ks?
I usually shift at around 4,000rpm.
