This is what the auto electrician told me. The starter motor there is a gear wheel, it goes into the the engine and rotates the Bendix wheel and comes back. The Bendix wheel teeth are broken, and the bendix wheel is connected to the crank. Quite pissed of i spent $330 on a starter motor that wasnt gone at all. Anyways, calling up wreckers to find a engine.
What is that mechanic talking about? A Bendix gear is the component which engages the teeth on the engine flywheel ring. If the Bendix gear is broken, it certainly does not mean your crank shaft is broken!!! and you certainly do not need to change the drive shaft, much less the flywheel.
If your car's manual, you might be able to bump start the car, but I don't recommend it unless you know exactly whats wrong.
Reckon you've been fed alot of bull shit. I'd spend a bit more and get the car towed to a more reliable mechanic. Penny wise pound foolish.
Hey, ive got one of the possible answer for your car.. ur crankshaft might be rounded off at the tip so the pulley doesnt stay on ? so it wont start all the belts fell off right?
do i get rep?
trust me it happens.. ive experienced it.. the end of the pully was chewd out and so was bits of the crank and also around it there was no more thread to lock the pulley in
either way in your shoes ur looking about min 900 banana's
LOL, starter motor is on the cam gear side of the engine. Accessory pulleys are on the other end. Wrong info dude. Don't assume that everyone elses problem is the same as yours.
e240 i think he meant my flywheel ring has broken its teeth or the flywheel is gone. Have any of you guys managed to break your flywheel on a stock engine ? Im gonna get it checked out by another mechanic, but the NRMA guy said it was the starter motor. The Auto electrician says its the engine, pretty weird especially when i changed the timing belt and do services every 5k. Anyways, let us know if youve managed to damage your flywheel or anything similiar happen to you, howd you fix the problem ?

Seriously, get your car towed to Hannys, and get it diagnosed. You won't find out what is wrong without pulling off the gearbox and looking at the flywheel. All people can give you are guesses in this case since you can't be sure til you open it up.
yeah soz after reading it again ive noticed i have given inaccurate info..
well all the information you need is on this page already so
GL with the problem dude
