Thread: Idle Trouble

  1. #1
Hi everybody ...... Hoping u might be able to answer this question for me . I own a 1994 Integra VtI-r . It has a slight idle problem . When I start the car it idles very high round 3000 RPM . After 5min it drops to 2000 RPM and then finally 1000. Then what happens is it revs 2000 and drops 1000 constantly when it is either idle or I have the clutch in . It does this for about 10mins while driving around then stops.

I have a mate who owns a VTEC CRX and his was doing the same thing but his was a worn head gasket which he soon realised when his temperature gauge was almost on boil. I have checked my Integra for this but the temperature gauge stays in the middle and I haven't lost a drop of water .

If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated .

so ur saying the revs go up and down constantly?
    its either:
adjust ur idle on the throttle body (use a screwdriver if u know it),
could also be ur air control valve
or even ur idle control valve
all attached to ur throttle body...

check ur throttle body maybe full of deposits and need to be cleaned?

check the ecu for fault codes 1st
. have you ever seen the engine light come on while driving ?
    then do what FANATK said.
but I am only aware of an Idle Air Control Valve IACV.
whats this air control valve. are you talking about the wax pallet built into the IACV ???

Look for the EACV / IACV Clean in the DIY section

Thanks for yor help guys . I just thought I'd leave you with an update .
I went to see my Honda dealer and he said that they have had a few Honda's do this but they are still not sure of the problem .

I asked them if they could put it on the computer for me which they did and everything was fine except for the idle stepper motor saying open / closed constantly .The dealer reckons I should order a new Idle motor so I'm going to try that . I'll keep posted on the outcome .
