    Scratched my windscreen. Need help!

It was raining heavily today and the wiper was dislodged (from now on, always check. check. check.) and i only realised what it has done after i could finally stop to inspect the screeching sound. the metal part has left a big curvy scratch!
any suggestions to how/what/where to remove/buff it away?
how much would it costs to replace a new windscreen? and i am located in melbourne. thanks guys!

replacing the windscreen is quite expensive...your looking at atleast 200 bucks minimum... but average is usually more than that.

    How deep is the scratch?
    blah blah blah

The scratches are fairly surface. Can't feel it with fingers but very visible. I tried buffing with toothpaste & a dish-washing scourer (probably a bad idea) and it made it about 20% better. I'm hoping for a more effective DIY remedy, before I have to resort to professional help! Anyone know how much a job like that cost at a car detailer?

Obrien's used to polish up small scratches, but they stopped cos polishing glass actually reduces its thickness and in severe cases can weaken the glass.

if you're really up for it, you could try using something stronger than toothpaste? e.g brasso
or even stronger like cerium oxide.. read about it somewhere, think you can get it at rockhound shops

Does your insurance give you a free windscreen replacement per year?

If it does, maybe you could 'drive' into a flying rock and get a new one...
