    Engine oil?

In you opinions, which brand of synthetic engine oil is the best?

I always used Pennzoil 5W-50W, but they don't make them anymore. The new one is 5-40W I think.

Out of Mobil, Pennzoil and Shell (I don't trust Valvoline cus John Laws endorses it) which one is the best?

Mine is a 03 Jazz GLI auto.

Castrol Edge 5w-30, energy efficent, thin oil. You'll get a lot less drag in your engine than 5w-50 oil and better fuel economy and better throttle response. Around $50 for 5L at supercheap auto, often less when they discount it.

I always thought of Castrol as being inferior quality compared to the other names like Mobil, Shell or Pennzoil. Am I wrong?

I was thinking of getting Shell Helix ultra for my next oil change. My car has never been on anything other than full synthetic Pennzoil.

Should I stick to the same thing or is there anything better?

Is it OK to change oil brands after being on a particular brand for so long (3 years).

Mobil1 or Motul seem to be top of the range. not sure about the other ones. Shell and Castrol seem to be pretty average.

Depends how often you change it really. Alot of people say that if you change your oil every 5000 k's it doesn't matter which brand you use, as long as its a fully synthetic and its the right weight then you'll be a happy camper.

If i was buyin oil like Mobile 1 or something elsee that is $100+ a bottle i'd be leavin it in there longer.

I'm just one of thsoe guys that like to have fresh oil all the time.

Its a well talked topic too so you might find some good info if ya search.

yeh true that. Use Honda FEO (~$30) and change it every 5000km. Or buy expensive full-synthetic and change it every 10,000km

I mean its not like its a ferrari or a turbo car, the jazz runs very well with Honda FEO

FEO is good enough. So even Castrol is better than enough for your Jazz.

    Australian FEO is mineral.

Japanese FEO comes in mineral, semi and full synthetic.

South East Asian FEO comes in mineral and semi.

    I don't like Mobil1. I prefer Castrol 0w-40 over Mobil1 Gold. I prefer Motul 300V over all.

I coldn't be bothered changing every 5000km, I change mine every 10,000km (which generally equates to once every 10 months). So thats why I try to get the best possible oil.

I am very happy with pennzoil 5-50W; the car is very quiet, idels at 500rpm and on the motorway at 110-120km/h the revs are at 2400-2500rpm.

I only use the best available products on my car but now that Penzzoil stopped making 5-50W oil, I feel a bit lost. Is 40W enough for our summers, when the ambient temp is around 36-40C? Does anyone make 50W oil anymore?
