I have 2.5 from the flex back, and as long as you have a good muffler and resonator the noise will be fine. Loss of back pressure? You dont want back pressure, you want exhaust velocity... I noticed NO loss in power down low at all. It didn't feel sluggish whatsoever. When i get my dyno graph i'll post it up. Have you driven a lude with a 2.5" exhaust?
No i havent, but i assume that 2.5 is fine for turbo cars although heez only getting 2.5 from the cat back, so i guess thats fine and every1 has a different definition for noisy, i think my stock piping and a fart cannon is noisy, lol 2.5 all the way is definetley overkill
2.5" is not even close to overkill for performance. The size you choose depends on the mods you will do for the car. 2.5" is noisier comparing the same muffler / header and resonators.
i got 2.25" on my lude which produces a great note and power. perosnally id go 4 that but definantly no bigger than 2.5" :S
