whats a short block?
the price i got was for a halfcut and i negotiated down to 5g. that was about 4 months ago when i wanted to do a conversion on my civic but i didnt get one in the end cause all up the conversion was gonna cost me around the 9k mark (clutch, mounts, brakes, labour etc...).
if the h22a halfcuts are going for around 3k why wouldnt u be able to find a b18c for 5-6k? we're not talking about a k20a here, b18c7 is on a 14g car, do u realy think they'd sell a cut up engine bay off a smashed car for more than 6g?...

u can get a normal audm spec b18c7 for about 5
labour to install the whole new engine would varie from 2500 - 4000
if its a type R that you have i suggest you just rebuilt it from the ground up
rather changing a whole new motor, in the end its just not worth it mate.
The rebuild should cost about the same as a cheap swap. Somewhere about $3,300AUD. And that's if there isn't a lot to replace. New pistons and rods will add to that, same with head parts like springs and retainers or valves.
I did a fair bit of searching for an b18c7 a few months ago.
These were my findings:
Short Block: $700-3000 mainly dependant on condition, whether it had
damaged pistons, missing bits etc..
Engine only i.e. long block: 4000-5500
Complete Engine, intake manifold, ecu: $4500-6500
Engine + lsd gearbox: 6500+
Half Cut: $6500-$7500+
Mechanic costs varied a fair bit according to what needs to be done. A straight swap over would be the cheapest. As others have suggested, its probably cheaper to rebuild rather than replace.
