h22 turbo need help
hey guy just got my car back not long ago from getting it turbocharged and realised that there is greyish smoke coming out of the exhuast wen i put my foot to the floor. anyone know wats causing it?? and btw as well as wen my car is in 1st gear. wen im just cruising no greyish smoke

is it not unburnt fuel??/u should have a realy rich tune under WOT and close to 14.7 A/F in closed loop

ok....under mild load,u should have an A/F ratio of about 14.7, this is called the stoiciometric (spelling?) ratio. a very high percentage of the fuel will be burnt. this is why at cruising u dont have smoke
when tuning a turbo engine to safeguard from detonation/pinging ect. a tune A/F of prob low 12s for ur higher loading cases, like u say wide open throttle. this leaves alot of unburnt fuel expelled from the exhaust and thus u see smoke

i was thinking of the turbo or the rings thats causing it

I have never seen a well tuned turbo car blow smoke at load. I would seriously consider anyone telling you it's ok.
How many stock turbo cars do you see smoking under load? None. They still have to run the rich a/f ratios.
There's a bigger issue occuring here.
What kind of tuning has been done? New or used turbo? Kit or diy set up?
Generally when I see smoking in a new turbo set up, the first thing I look at is the placement of the oil return line.

the only thing i wonder is, my cars all na...hell all stock preludes are na....and they all blow smoke because of a rich tune....since i got my standalone ecu and had that tuned it blows more due to a richer tune.....i woulda bet money on it not being a problem but i suppose u should listen to saxman.....i dont have alot of experiance with turbo

Well black smoke is fuel, you were saying grey smoke. Generally white smoke is coolant, blue is oil, black is fuel.
I doubt it is anything major. I've seen a H series lose its rings and you definitely know when that happens. Oil return is a possibility, or running a ball bearing turbo without restrictor is another possibility. A bit more info on the setup would help, along the lines of what Saxman asked. Was it a kit, what turbo, ECU etc.
CUL8R: you have a richer tune than stock since getting a standalone ECU?? You do realise that the stock ECU runs quite rich under load and that the standalone should be running leaner than stock.

im like 13.4
we did lean it out but my car responded better when given more fuel. 13.4 was optimal

hey filoaccord,
i agree with saxman, my car had the same problem and it was to do with the oil return line, hoses that were goin to the catch can were ****ed around with, check urs out.
