1st time 1/4 mile experience in Euro
Well lads,
Last night me & Matell went to Willowbank and let our Euro loose on the drag strip!
I was pretty nervous as a 1st timer and made a fool of myself by revving too high and clutch slipping all the way from 1st 2nd to 3rd gear.....got a time of 20sec!!! woohoo!! the worst time of the night I think.
I then tried to beat my previous time & had David ( who has an automatic Euro, hope he will be on the board soon) teach me a few tricks.
2nd time I did a 15.8 OK time I guess. I only did 3 runs as I think I damaged my clutch at the 1st launch.
Matell did extremely well with his 15.5 pass with a near perfect start .
All in all, we had fun guys, with a bit of practice, I think the Euro has the potential to get to low 15s...

practice makes perfect

I'll second baboo's comments on that! It was great fun and I think we both learnt a lot on proper launch technique, and how much of a difference a good launch makes on ones elapsed time.
As both of us were 1/4mile virgins I must say that there's still a lot of practice to be done before confidently being able to nail mid to low 15's on every run, but it's certainly acheivable!
Oh and the strip felt very slippery on stock tyre's, a launch technique use on road surfaces didn't work well on a dedicated strip. My first three runs were low 16's, and on baboo's advice on his last run I did my final run from 2000-2500rpm, slipping the clutch a little to get moving, then dropping it out smoothly and rapidly while quickly feeding on full throttle. That combined with flat shifting acheived the 15.5. With practice I'm sure it'll get lower.

Good Work!

well done guys!! : ) how much did it cost to go do it?
Personally speaking for my 1st 1/4 mile i wanna drive an auto just to get the feel of it
-
Provided you've already got a helmet it's $34 for as many runs as you want to try to squeeze in. Or abuse your car with as you still have to drive home afterwards!
It all depends on your viewpoint.
-
what sort of terminal speeds are you guys reaching down the quarter?
Any euros into the 14's yet?
-
Nice work!
Now don't forget to submit your timeslip to the timeslip database baboo. Matell has already done his
-
OK I will!
Terminal speed is 146kph for me.
-
I punched some figures into an online calculator http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/4601/hpcalc.html
The result was pretty close to the trap speed of 90 mph (146kph)
Vehicle Weight - 3,085 pounds
Horse Power Estimated - 190 hp
E.T - 14.75
Trap Speed - 92 mph
I wonder if a 14 second pass is possible for a stock euro.

Terminal speed for me was 147.56kph.
Unfortunately I honestly don't think a stock Euro could reach 14sec even with a text book perfect launch.

I agree, even a Stock Euro R can't hit 14 flat...
I'd be happy to go under 15 in my car LOL!... just a few tenths of a second to go LOL!

Hey are you getting your speeds from your RSM+G-Sensor? or actual 1/4 mile runs at a track? I was using my RSM+G-Sensor on the run I managed a 15.5 on, and the RSM indicated a 15.3. I'll check the value when I leave work, but I'm pretty sure that's what it was. The difference was actually about 0.2 on the runs I used the RSM on. So the RSM 0-400m times are close, but a little generous.

sounds like you boys had a blast!!! fcuk me you must have given it a hard time to slip the clutch in 1st 2nd and 3rd!!
I really want to take my car to a strip.
i think the problem for me will be slipping tyres.
Im going to get some semi slicks for the stock alloys and bolt them up when drag racing.
Do u think that would be a good idea?
-
Not sure if it's tyre spinning all the way to 3rd or slipping clutch. but more like slipping clutch as I can smell something burning in the cabin & in the engine bay...LOL
The track is so slippery, I don't think it would help putting some semi slicks.
best to put Drag radial tyres.
To be honest, you probably get a better time doing 1/4 on a piece of regular road than on the drag strip.

do you think a LSD would make alot of difference on a slippery tack?

If you are running a straight line, LSD won't make a difference, but if you are on a track.. BY GOLLY it's BENEFICIAL!

Yeah, before I took the car to the strip, I ran 15.23 on the RSM-GP, At the strip where I ran 15.7, my RSM registered 15.5.. Only other reason I can think of that is making the difference is that my G Sensor haven't been mounted flat enough LOL (Re-Calibrating doesn't really help much) I used a level to try and place the G Sensor as flat as possible...

Traction control & launch control would, but not LSD

Not with the Euro's Traction Control on the Strip... It takes too long to recover LOL! est counter against wheel hop is the find the "Just Right" RPM to launch the car and slie the clutch without too much wheel spin....

That's a good time. Now when will someone organise the melbourne's drag race so I won't be a virgin anymore? Nick?
