Manual shifting of DC4 auto transmission

I recently discovered that it seems to be possible to manually select and hold/limit the 4 stages of the automatic fitted to the DC4 Integra. Also it's possible to shift down through the stages using the lever, as opposed to the accelerator kickdown function. I have noted with this transmission that it will shift down when slowing to a halt in traffic while in drive (4th stage) that I hadn't noticed in the earlier models of Honda autos I've had.

Any comments or observations on this capability.

    It will

From D to 3, you can just pull the lever back, but from 3 to 2, or 2 to 1 - you have to press the button as well - whilst pulling the lever.

Yeah - the shifts in D are smoother, but the up-changes are much shorter also, limiting the engine's ability to ever get into its powerband.
