We did get them, but only the stripped down version with no back seats that they pretended was a commercial vehicle. They did this to get around the tariff (I think it was really steep at the time, anyone remember what %?)
In those days Corollas, Ford Lasers & Nissan Pulsars were made locally(mostly), so Honda couldn't compete on price with such a small car any other way.
Later on people imported the turbo engine from Japan to drop in.
