broken gear stick

hey guys the top of my gear stick (the plastic bit) broke off the metal part, with some of the metal part still in the plastic, which joins to the gear system (have a short shift). What is the easiest way to get the plastic part back onto the metal part? I think that the metal snapped inside the plastic part of my gear shifter and I need to join the two bits back together.
Whats the easies way to fix this?

and ill take a photo 2morrow morning, im pretty sure i just have to redo the shortshift shouldnt be to hard

you need a new gearbox

yea im just gonna cut the knob off, buy a new one and just weld the metal together
