vtec controller
what do u guys reckon of a vtec controller such as the apexi V-AFC II on a dc2 type r. I know its not goin to give more power or make it heaps faster all i would want it for is to have more power lower down in the rev range and have vtec come in a little earlier
-
yeh... bcos that is wot is for... but i think u need at least a bit of tuning inorder to bring out more power and stuff. also, u realise that by making the Vtec kicks in eariler u gotta use more fuel.
any how, i think is a good componets.

It will give you more power although it will be mods dependant but a gauge for you would be that a stock DC2R with a tuned VAFCii will give only around 3-5Kws at the wheels at the most.

so how do those contollers work exactlly can u switch them on and off so u use it when u want and can u do it so it has like 2 settings one for fuel economy and one for performance or is it always on and always one setting
-
good idea... but i dont think (not certain) u can have two types of fuel follows for u to choose at anytime...
well... as far as i know, those controller connects to ur engine and other componets, inorder to show u all the date like RPM, oil, water, VTEC... etc etc... mainly for display data, then it adjusts the fuel follow and makes Vtec come in at smaller rpm.. my fren's type S he made it comes in 5500 RPM... usually after 6000-6500, or mayb slightly later. so yeah...

i wouldnt recommend it unless you have modded your car. Most of the time the way mr honda set the vtec up from the factory is the best for fuel economy and power gain. If you bring the vtec in earlier the only thing that will happen is your car will use more fuel and be probably slower. ie. sound faster but go nowhere fast. If you have a full exhaust and intake then i would consider it because u can tune the exhaust and that for the car and possibly gain a little bit more power but as EuroAccord said, probably only 3-5kw max. IMO i wouldnt bother

BiBANG correcto
if u got a stock as a rock R, dont stuff around with vtec engagement
honda has set it up to be as efficient and effective as possible
if u got mods ere and there, then consider gettin one, and get it tuned by some1 that knows wat theyre doin

Please don't take this the wrong way, but why not get a proper ECU and tune it properly? Better gains, responce and fuel economy. And although I've never bought a VAFC I'm sure a Hondata S200 or similar is not *that* much more...
-
if u make it kick in earler, its piss weak, u wont feel a thing, if u make it kick in later...well....it kicks in later!!! imo the stock point is pretty much nice.
as for the afc side of things, they work by altering the signals of your sensors to "trick" the ecu into running richer or leaner....vtecs runs pretty rich up top, but i would even think about leaning anything out without a wideband and some road or dyno time. the ecu is the glue that bonds all ure mods together and puts the icing on ure cake, you wont get the most out of your mods without tuning.
-
i had one in my type r, all i can say is it looks good, if you really "need" one save a bit more and get a powerFC or Hondata, alternativly if you got $400 dollars burning a hole and you "Want" one then get it, its about the cheapest thing you can do to a type r although alot of people will tell you to spend your money else where me included
-
Vtec controllers on stock engines wont give you anymore power, but instead, if the switch over point is changed, will leave you with a hole in your powerband at best.
-
yeah i get that it wont give more power but what about using it to get the power a little earlier in the rev range. what do ya rekon
