    DC5R Common Issues

Hi everyone. I've just sold my DC2 VTIR and am now in the process of buying a DC5R. Very exciting!

This is a call out to all DC5R owners. What common problems have you faced in owning the car?

I'm sure the other forums would have talked about them in detail so lets just create a compilation of faults. Additional information can be searched for

From what I've seen on the second hand market common wear and tear occurs
    1. Like scratches on the aluminium gear knobs , and
    2. The Recaros get worn from occupants entering and exiting the tight hugging seats.

    5. the holes on the head of the Recaro seat's might have some loose stitching.
    6. previous owner replacing the brakes ducts with OEM fog lights...!! (i personally hate that on the DC5R)

2nd gear crunches when you fully tec 1st
the windows rubber on the driver gets stuck
the exterior door pillar trim breaks (both doors)
the extierior plast trim on the front glass breaks easily
the above all are cheap to replace, just snap on pieces.

dun the expensive stuff is the damn recaros, they gets scratched so easily, and i can't find any trimmers in sydney who can retrim my seats

doesn't mean squat... i had an NRMA inspection, $350 later told me car was perfect... purchase car... annnnd let's just say that my "perfect" car (OK, so it's perfect NOW, but it wasnt THEN!!!) has made my wallet a LOT thinner, and also removed my dreams/funds for extensive modifications...

best to get it checked out by a honda expert, there're a few in syd i know of... maybe you can find one in your state/city - get them to check it out first and *in addition* get the NRMA/etc to check it if you want to be doubly sure...

better to be spending 500 now than 5000 later after buying a lemon

My guess is one of those unobservable problems they couldn’t check? I would imagine they give some sort of guarantee for the checks they are able to do.

I live in Sydney too and the only mechanics I trust are at Hannys. But if I'm buying a car interstate, the Motoring body inspections are the only source of independent information I have

the only problems i have with mine is second gear issue and recaro slight amount of wear on recaros.
bought mine with 35000k on it about 3 months ago and carpet had worn through on drivers side but got it replaced under factory warranty.
had floor mats when i bought it but wether they had been there the whole time i dunno.
second gear thing is a lot more noticable when cold gets ok when gearbox warms up, though i am considering getting my dealer to have a look and try get something done.
recaros will wear just take a bit of care when getting in out it shouldnt get to bad, the blue suade can be replaced fairly easy but the mesh fabric in the middle parts is only available from honda with the foam as well and its dam expensive, i damaged the base part of drivers seat and to get the part from honda i have been quoted around $800 from 3 dealers in perth

cant really think of any other dramas ive had with mine, i havent really heard of any of the other problems that people have mentioned here though. the only i would suggest if you can is get a honda extended warranty just to cover yourself

I'm with Menthu Rae on the NRMA etc having no idea. I’ve had an RAA inspection done on a car and it was a waste of time, my left nut had more brains than the RAA guy.

I can recommend a Honda specialist in Adelaide to inspect cars for you (plus its only $55). I had one done on my car before I bought it he picked up that it had the wrong battery fitted and that the timing adjustment hadn’t been done at 80,000. As well as telling me it hadn’t been serviced by a dealer lately because it didn’t have a genuine Honda oil bolt washer.

The only down side is you will have to get the seller to drop the car off to be inspected.

    Heres the address
    PROBE AUTO PTY LTD
12 Nelson St Stepney (Phone / Fax) 5069
    (08) 8363 0898

I’m sure guys in other states can recommend places to have cars inspected.
