It must be a mistake! A 220kw Volvo with AWD and a 0-100 acceleration of 5.7 seconds beaten by a Honda Accord Euro on a racetrack?!!!

As you can see - it is only extracts of the article. If someone has a copy of Autocar - 26 August 2003 - please let us know what the deal is - fact or fiction?!

Well, if the volvo is an auto, and the accord a 6 speed........

I don't know the specs of the type S, but are they K24s or K20s??

    I watched a worked S60R drag off a manual E46 M3 - S60R was winning for about 6 seconds.....
Had it been an SMG E46 M3, the volvo would have had no chance - SMG BMWs have f1 launch control....

Accord Type S is K24. It also seems closer in spec to an Aus Euro than the Acura TSX. Same horsepower output for the engine, same sized rims etc.

I have a "feeling" that the problem with the Volvo was that its stability control could not be turned off and this impacted times around the track. As soon as the car is pushed hard around a corner the computer cuts the power and the engine bogs. Try left foot trail braking - power is cut, etc. Motor magazine always winge about this during performance car of the year tests - Audis always get a mention. Same deal with Volvos?

Would be good to see the article!

    Okely

True, computer controlled dynamics are baaaaaaad.
I also hink the weight factor on a track would affect the Volvo seriously

Also depends on the track - maybe the FWD had the benefit out of the tight corners......

I had a quick look - Volvo weighs in at approx 1623kg's.
    Accord is 1395kg's

With the different setups it could be around 250-300kg's different. That's like an extra 3 people in the car!
