Fronts will clear fine. Rears you shooould be ok depending on what tyre you run. I had -2.5 camber on the rear with 225/45 and still scrubbed like crazy with Hankook RS3s (massive sidewalls) but have heard of others not having any issues whatsoever with same setup and different brand of tyres.

Yeah will be rolled n trimmed. What camber were you running on that setup though? Natural would have been more -2 or more at the rear

So I got my oem headlights retrofitted and modded. Now have true quad projectors, dual high beam (not quad), full black satin finish and red projector lenses (white light output) to match red honda badge.

Will post better pictures of light output, colour band at cut off, red lenses etc when we have a nice clear day here in Darwin - we're on cyclone watch at the moment and should have a few days of overcast, rainy weather!

Hey guys, I need some technical advise from fellow ep3r owners. Im in the process of gathering parts to do a full gearbox rebuild and just wanted some clarification whether my NPR3 gearbox runs a single or multi cone synchro for 5-6 gear. Its a 2003 type r.

From memory the 03 run a single cone

22-01-2014, 05:29 PM
Is there a way to confirm through the gearbox part number?

stndrd
22-01-2014, 05:30 PM
Not really. Only if you had a Japanese Honda parts catalouge or you strip the box down

TOUGE-ITR
22-01-2014, 05:36 PM
From what ive read, 1-2 is triple cone, 3-4 is dual cone and 5-6 is single...but that was just some of the kits they were selling from USA.

Can anyone recommend a workshop that might know?

stndrd

With the inner surface of the synchro being carbon, it has a better surface contact than the standard bronze. The carbon also lasts longer than bronze, meaning they dont wear as quickly and promote smoother shifting at high rpm

03, is la-ep3 since it's a prefacelift.

Facelifted 04 and onwards is aba-ep3.

You can search by your chassis number as well. for example you could type in EP31000478 and it'll match the correct one for you.

Interesting.

Are there any disadvantages? For example, does it also shift smoother if not equal to OEM in lower rpm range? Would it require uprated MTF for this work well?

stndrd
23-01-2014, 12:29 PM
I have been using Synchrotech Carbon synchro's for the last 6 months (have rebuilt approx 8 boxes in this time) and have not had a single issue with one of them. They have better engagement angles than OEM as well which means its easier for the slider to move over them.

I use Penrite oil's in my shop and for a car that gets driven like a baby, I use Penrite Trans Gear 75W80 (semi synthetic / direct replacement for Honda MTF) otherwise I use Penrite Pro Gear 75W85 (full synthetic) for cars that get driven fairly hard. Both oils do not cause any harm to the synchros

TOUGE-ITR

Hey stndrd, is your ep3 a preface? If so, is 5 - 6 single or double cone?

I have a EP3R engine/gbox in my EG Civic. I do not currently have my gbox apart so I cannot confirm. Let me get in contact with Synchrotech and find out

EDIT: 5/6 run a double cone synchro

If you need them supplied, or any other gearbox parts, let me know

Ebay.co.uk, EP3's are abundant in the UK so if you haggle with the sellers you could probably get a pair of FL lights for under 100 pounds and around 100 pounds shipping. Still works out cheaper; that's what I would have done but my mates going UK soon so his just going to bring me back a pair instead.

For people going after for facelift headlights, just be aware that there is a difference between the UKDM and JDM facelift headlights.

The UKDM facelift headlights uses h4 halogens not HID, so therefore it is unlikely that you are able to reuse your existing HID bulbs unless one decides to change the OEM HIDs with aftermarket h4 HIDs.

http://www.hondaoriginalparts.com/honda_car_parts_select_model_C11.php?model_53=CIVI C&carea_53=KE&year_53=2002

Another note is that Ling's Honda does not stock the JDM headlight. Only the UKDM headlight. I know of a friend who has been burnt by this.

For the JDM headlight I would think it is best to enquire amayama.com. They sell brand Honda genuine parts.

If amayama's price is too high, quote the exact Honda part number you need and ask Jessestreeter for a price quote. He might be able to source cheaper prices for brand new OEM parts from Japan.

Good luck

I wanted an oil cooler cause i thought it was abit high as i do alot of highway driving and recently got a JRSC, but that means i'll also have to relocate my sensors for my oil temp and pressure gauge.

I've also got an aftermarket tegiwa radiator which i'm not sure if its cooling any better than the oem, but when the car is off and when I turn it on after about an hour i notice the temps drop pretty fast.

That's pretty cool temps imo.

Both me and my bro's ep3 measure the same temp in the same conditions. Although both have the same type/brand of oil temp sensor.

The K20A has a small heat exchanger located at where the oil filter is mounted and cools the oil using the engine coolant. Therefore upgrading the radiator will help cool the oil indirectly although not any where as effective as a proper oil cooler.

Btw, have you sorted out the pressure drop from 28 to 21psi which you posted about sometime in 2012?

Yeah, I noticed last night driving and it was really cool and rainy and my oil temps were around 76 degrees on the highway at 3.7k rpms and even after doing lots hard runs and red line pulls it didn't even go over 80 degrees, usually it'll be around 85+. My coolant was also alot cooler at 60 degrees. Also recently installed an injen cai which sits behind the right the hole on the mugen lip and did the throttle body coolant bypass to reduce the IATs. haha im keen for winter

As for the oil pressure, it now sits around 28-32psi. I think it was my oil pressure sender on its way out since after a month later it started fluctuating like crazy.

60c for water temp is pretty cold haha. Not sure if that' ok or not because as far as I know ideally it should be sitting around 80-90c for operating temp.

Would you have an aftermarket thermostat installed by any chance?

Hi guys...can anyone confirm if our abs module has a bleeder valve?
Ive recently just started putting my car back together after 6 months of being off the road getting built and Im in the process of bleeding my brakes.
From what I've read, most abs pump module has bleed valve on it but from what the US site mention...98 and up integras and civics dont have a bleeder valve.
If thats true....then do I just bleed it as per normal?

Hows your fuel consumption? check the condition of the o2 sensor wires and the connector pins, ive heard one guy fixing the code after finding out one of the pins were loose. Otherwise a new o2 sensor is the fix.

Hi everyone,

Over the last few weeks, my suspension has been making a "clunk" sound when I drive over something that's uneven (eg. driveways, fast changes in road height). The sound was coming from the front driver's side wheel - that went away about a week ago. The same kind of sound is now coming from the rear driver's side wheel.

Has anyone ever encountered this sound? If so, what was making the sound? Thanks in advance :)

Hi, everyone!

So, I've just registered with the local motor sport body here in the NT (NAMSC) and paid for a CAMS L2S licence. I'll be tracking my car very soon! :) Our local track is Hidden Valley for those who are wondering.
http://v8supercar-racing.com/image-files/Hidden-Valley.jpg

At the moment, my car only has engine mount inserts and engine torque damper installed. Wheel hop is now NIL.

I'm due for new tyres though so I'm after your help. Anyone who's tracked their EP3 - can you recommend a good track/daily tyre? I only have 1 set of wheels at the moment, the stock EP3 wheels, and don't have the time to take my car to a tyre shop to have tyres switched over for each track meet. I'm not too worried about sacrificing daily ride comfort as I used to have a VERY stiff ride in my old car...and how much worse can a set of good track tyres make things?? It can't be that bad, right???
Also, should I stick to the stock tyre settings (205/45/17) or increase to 215 or higher?

I plan to track my car in it's stock settings the first few times and improve as much as I can with good tyres before considering what upgrades to add depending on my abilities. Which upgrades did you guys add that seemed to improve your track times the most?

I ran 17x8 +35 with -1.5, with 225/45/17

It scrubbed when i hit bumps, so i went back to 215 and it's all good now.

Is there a cat back exhaust that mounts higher than the stock one? Especially the b pipe section. I've been having some scraping in that area with lowered RSR springs.

UNA91
27-04-2014, 02:17 AM
There isn't much room for adjustment, unfortunately the EP3/DC5 chassis makes the mid pipe the lowest point of the car since it doesn't have that hump in the middle where the exhaust would run thru like other cars. Soon enough you'll be able to judge any bumps you'll scrape. You'll find almost all the secondhand dc5/ep3 exhausts sold will have scrapes across the b pipe

Thanks for the information.
I was going to replace the exhaust but since it's a chassis problem it wouldn't be a definite solution.
Stock springs would be an option but I love the way it looks at the moment.
My tires are currently 205/45/17 semi slicks. And I'm going to 215/45/17 wet weather tires in the future, do you think this would improve the scraping issue?

Dont think changing tyre width will change the cars height. Even at stock height driving around older suburbs with sharp bumps would scrape the b pipe. Just something you'lll have to live with. i've got a 70mm exhaust and the height from the ground bis about the height of an an iphone sideways

Not really a chassis problem so to speak. Its a Type-R, so naturally performance before practicality. Now factory is low already and adding lowering springs which I believe if its the RS*R Down, would be about 20mm all round? so if you were to knock off 20mm from your ground clearance, there isn't much room left...

You can replace the B pipe with an oval pipe like they do in the states. The change in tires will only raise your car by 4 mm give or take.

Practice finding and getting use to the friction point so that you can bring up your rpms and disengage the clutch for a smoother take off. Ride it a little longer at first when you're not so use to it, then reduce time riding the clutch as you get more proficient and confident. Even if its sprung, it will have a tight window for you to play with. Once you're use to it, its fairly easy.

This is fairly normal for your type of clutch depending on GBox, Material + Design of Clutch.

Though if the HD [Which I assume is the HD that's one step above OEM replacement ie not Sport/Race/Comp spec HD] is doing it too, could be a bearing or something in the GBox.

haha yeah i got the hang of it a alot better, but sometimes it bogs down (jerks) and then picks up again, must also be cause the lightweight flywheel :/

all bearings were replaced, i think the heavy duty is just the oem spec with a heavier pressure plate on it. Guess it's just the way it is, just like noisy ceramic brake pads, just annoying cause its quite audible outside the car, makes it feel cheap haha

1. Get a head unit that has a clock on it.
2. Get a clock and stick on somewhere on your dash.
3. Get a watch.

JDM concept has OEM visors for ep3's but it's $275+shipping

Shift performance have visors for ep3 also and it's only $99. Except it's non-OEM so they're not coloured plastic like the OEM ones. I have the OEM ones and they're a lot better looking than the non-OEM IMHO.

It's just adhesive. Pretty much re usable sticky tape. First you have to loosen the suction and then you grab the base tab and wiggle it off. :)
I'm sure a phone holder is not supposed to be permanent.

Not sure about the bushes, but a lot of EP3 owners go for MTEC shifter springs. They're roughly $50, supposed to reduce slop and make shifting more direct. I'm going to be putting some in pretty soon, even though I have no problems with the sloppy stock shifter

mryangtastic
