I really think it'd be the same as a EU. Two reasons;

1- I've parked right next to one before and other than the front bar, from the front it looked like the same car.

2- They wouldnt make a one off windscreen for the CTR.

Good luck to ya Steve!

8" with +25 should fit depends on your camber and tyre width.

the rear should be ok but it might stick out a little bit at the front.

regardless should clear the suspension easy.

u'll need camber bolts or coilovers with top mounts for more camber.

the stock sussy doesn't have much adjustment unfortunately.

Nepolian

6.5" rim on 25 offset already sits flush with guards.

I'd say with a 8" thats 1.5" = approximately 38mm, giving you almost 18-19mm out from the guard. I'd say get better off set rims or drive on the inside of your tyre with the neg that you'll need.

thanks for replies hey phillip how are 18"s? on your car is it a bit rougher i was thinking to stay within the 17" sizes only

Philip Lee
12-03-2009, 02:02 PM
i initially had 215/40/18 and the ride was rough (maybe the old hard tyres contributed to that) and i now have 225/40/18 and it's good.

with the higher sidewall, the gap between fender is reduced which made the car "looked" lowered haha.

Theres no issues with running 16's on the EP. The fact that it is the same car (chssis) as the AUDM ITR and they run 16's.

EP3EVA

all i know is smaller size = more wheel spin!!

if you really want 16'' and still want ok traction 16'' 7'' wide!

Coz the oem is 17'' 7'' wide!

just my 2 cent if you planing to get new rims for your godly JDM EP3 R get wheels that is 7.5''-8'' on 17''-18'' wheel if not just get wider rubber for your oem wheels.

yeah just no point of down grade!!

guys dont to take my words is just IMO thats all.

Philip Lee
14-03-2009, 02:12 PM
err i may a noob but i fail to see how going to 16s will induce more wheel spin.

as long as the tyres size compensate the reduced wheel size (ie. fitting higher profile tyres), there shouldn't be any problem.

Nepolian
14-03-2009, 02:15 PM
I run 16's with cheap tyres and have done a 13.6 down the quarter. You telling me if I put on my 17" rims, I'd do a better time?? Dont think so!!

"Traction" is usually down to the type of tyre. It really has no relevance when it comes to wheel size as such, just which type or tyre and wheel to suit your application.....eg, drags, track, rally etc.....

Obviously wider the better, no one will argue with that. Just comparing for CTR and ITR, 205/45/17 and 205/55/16....no right biggy there.

Realistically, for looks, you'd go 18's. But I like my OEM/USDM look and prefer smaller wheels. Thats just me!

14-03-2009, 02:16 PM

yeah thats what i thought?

They will actually get more traction.....on the track as they will essentially heat up quicker as less circumference area, although still same surface area gripping the road (unless vtecin').

Yes a 3" cat would do. But i'd save my money for a kpro of intake if i were you. Realistically there is nothing to be gained from changing the cat unless your making the power.

So on the rule of kw per $......save you money!

downside is availablity of parts but that's the price you pay for imports. but many parts are shared with other Hondas so it's not too bad.

so far i have no regrets. my car has been running strong and pretty cheap to run.

bad thing is not a lot of street cred due to the look. you either love it or hate it.

^ e.g. if you have an accident...gl with getting replacement body parts...everything will need to be imported from japan...this seems to be the case even for the windshield as well (apparently it's wider than the windscreen for the EU civic)

also because they weren't as popular as the DC2 or DC5 in japan...all the EP3 specific parts are a bit more expensive...

fuel consumption is pretty good...providing you don't drive like a maniac...somewhere around 9.5-10L/100km

exterior - headlights (projector), front bumper and rear lights

interior - seat colour (from full red to black/red), maybe other minor bits

performance - apparently different flywheel (not 100% sure) and retuned suspension to reduce understeer.

I wouldnt get a EP3 unless it had log books, and the electronic scanner that they usually come with to say that these low kms are genuine. Before i purchased mine i had a look at a couple which were around the 40xxxkm mark, some of them were in poor condition.

So if ur planning on buying a EP3 make sure u get what u pay for, and try to get one with logbooks to prove that they are genuine kms. I purchased my car with a 75kms and i got what i paid for, at the end of the day atleast i knew they were genuine kms and not wound back like most of them on the market. Thought ill give u a heads up =)

I totally agree, its not about kms....its about condition. Check a few cars out remember you get what you pay for. Don't cheap out on one with "low kms". Explore the market and arrange to drive a few EP3s for sale for example from private sellers as well.

Hope you find the one that suits you :)

i always go on the assumption thatevery import has the clock wound back :p terrible to say but its a common trade when they go to the auctions in japan... im going to go and drive it first and negotiate then leave so i dont look desperate, then come back again with a mechanic to c every little thing wrong with it and use it a leverage for bargenning, at the end of the day i know they have to make there money but ill try keep as much as mine as i can :) ... anoher thing, the EP3's arnt drive by wire are they?... cause that would suck

ill take a look at the k's and condition and go from there, not a fan of drive by wire... dont like the lag or the "detachment" from the car, if it was for family or cruise around in then thats fine but for spirited driving and track etc wouldnt go near it, couple of my mates have it (XR8, New WRX) and just dont like it...

About a 20mm drop Phil. Stock shocks are fine with it and the ride is firmer, which actually gives the car a sportier ride. Not too hard!

nice DIY. are you going to post up how?? hehe

cheers mate haha, but i didnt take any pictures when i did it sorry. but i will list the process:

1. buy the aftermarket back one with uncut key from any key store that have stock, it should be able to fit for model such as honda jazz key here, i.e. same shape.

2. use tools to cut remove the uncut key out from the plastic

3. cut your ep3's key, yeah i know no one want to cut their original key but cuz i got some extra aftermarket made keys for my car so i just cut those not original key, and then cut into the right size to fit into that aftermarket key case which the uncut key already been removed.

4. use the right glue to glue it up with the type-r front case, because there must be some gap in between due to the ep3 keys are thinner so i used hot gum with the gun to apply those glue into the gap.

5. after i glue the one side after make sure the key position has been fixed, then i used super glue to glue that type-r case together. Done!!!

6. some work might need cuz the aftermarket back case is not match the genuine type-r case very well so i think we can use the model puddy to fill in any gap, also be aware there are some holes for the factory remote on the aftermarket back case, so some sticker might be needed to cover the gap, good luck guys who want to do this job cheers!:)

Hey guys.

Ive been talking to a parts importer and they told me getting a windscreen from honda japan wouldnt b cheap because of the australian dollar. The windscreen alone was $1000. BUT the air feight was ranging from 1600 - 1800 :S Sea freight would b cheaper but the windscreen would b more prone to damage.

Called the importer up again yesterday to see if he found anything cheaper. He has been talking to some windscreen guy and they are going to b bringing over from japan aftermarket windscreens for our ep3's because they are aware of our model car. HELLLL YEAHHH ! ! only downside though is its going to b a couple of months b4 this all happens so i have to hang out till then. The price he told me they are looking at for windscreen and fit is 750 which would b farken heaps better then paying 2600 - 2800.

Philip Lee

depends on km and condition, EP3s are selling between 600k to 1.3m in Japan currently.

which is quite a big drop since we bought ours when yen was 100 (between 1.2m to 1.8m).

in a way what was lost on AUD value has been offset by cheaper price in Japan.

if u are considering importing, speak with IMG as many people here have good experience with them.

u'll need to factor another AUD$1-2k on top of the final auction price to become FOB price. then another 10-12k for shipping, duty/GST, compliance etc.

yups i know exactly which one ur talking about, that black one has been for sale 3 times in a 6 months period. It was the worst example of an EP3 i have ever seen in my life. The rear lights were cracked, Centrecaps are missing holes in the dash from gauges, it was an ex Track car in japan, Rocket cover turned into silver. The list goes on.. It was a grade 3 import from japan..=)

How many black EP3's were made(imported) in JAPAN? apparently the white ones are the rarest cause they only came out in japan whilst GB got every colour but white...and no offence to brad cause the car looks awsome, but the black makes it look like a 2 door jazz, just dosnt have the same "phatness" to it :)

Philip Lee
24-03-2009, 10:48 AM
in Japan, white ones are the most popular (by quite some margin) followed by black and red. silver is only available on C package and since most JDM EP3s are C package, silver is actually more popular than red.

if you count all the EP3s around the world, i guess white would be rare cos it was only available in Japan and EP3s weren't selling like hotcakes there.

i thought it redlined at 8200rpm? and u can rev the stock engine (ECU permitting) to 9k although the cams dont do much up there and the torque curve makes it decent, so id suggest bigger cams if u wanted it to do nething while its up at 9k but if u just wanted it for bragging rights, go for gold :)

How does the handling compare to an MX5?
Considering you've driven both?

the handling is very different.

i had the NA6 which was the oldest original MX5.

stock wise, i have to say the EP3 is better. obviously with all the years of development. chassis is stronger/stiffer and slightly less bodyroll. with the LSD you can put the power down early exiting corner.

however EP3 might be quicker but MX5 is more fun do drive. u can't beat rwd and (close to) 50:50 weight distribution etc etc.

i have to say they are different cars with different driving experience. for me a more powerful MX5 would be ideal but since i need to carry the kids now, mx5 is out of the question. i enjoy my EP3 just the same.

How does the S2000 compare to the MX5 (slightly off the topic)

I would have an S2000 any day over an MX5 due to looks, as I have never driven either

s2000 stock vs mx5 stock is way better in power and handling, as both of them are actually designed as soft tops and not a hard top re engineered for a soft top both there handling is great mx5's only downfall is the lack of power

Car stops alot more better.

Pads are abit dusty though but expected because they are sports brake pads
