had the pinging fix completed- no rattle anymore.
I've only pours 98 petrol since i bought the vechicle 13 months ago. I was given the warning from the service guys at the dealership, don't lie, we could check the quality of your petrol- at that moment i wanted to smack all my receipts on the desk and say look at the evidence.
So happy with the fix so far....but hate the customer service at my dealership, reckon they are dodgy as. But no naming and shaming here.

You just have to find a better dealer. Burswood seem to be the best in Perth for instance. Absolute pleasure to deal with. I have my favorite Toyota dealer in Perth too.
Checking on the petrol without your permission is an invasion of privacy. It's up to them to link any damage to your actions. In any case, as I have said before, I doubt that a humble dealership could justify owning the very expensive single cylinder engine with thick glass top that is used for finding the octane rating of a fuel. Such things are owned by car manufacturers, oil companies and university engineering departments.Quote:

bub668, don't lose hope, the 'fix' is official and released and will be fitted/applied under warranty next time you book your car at your dealer. I'll be having my Euro serviced shortly and will be making sure its completed then. :)
I spoke with the service manager at my dealership and he said make sure to book for the service well in advance and specifically mention the pinging so they can order the parts (in case they don't have them!).
I spoke with them on 24 September and they said they'd literally only received the "official" word a week beforehand and had only applied the fix once so far.
Mine actually doesn't ping so bad, but, still....I'd like it fixed as much as possible.
Yes, just booked mine one month in advance,
the dealer is fully aware and made note thats its to be applied.
Just to make note, I registered the problem with HA months ago as advised by the dealer and was never contacted advising that the fix was available, this forum has been my notification. Thanks to everyone thats added updates.

I had the fix applied to my car yesterday. I can still hear a slight ping under heavy acceleration. However normal driving its all gone, I am also currently running on a tank of 95 octane. I will try 98 and let you know how I go.
On a side note, the Honda dealership I bought my car from were really good up until I picked the car up. Then I became a no body, especially to the service department. Warranty work, yeah we will fix it the third or fourth time you bring it in for the same reason. What a joke, I would like to name and shame. Not just to vent but to warn other Honda owners to go somewhere else.

I'm exactly in the same boat, i went in bought the car, was promised the world, only to find the post sales service isn't there. rude over the phone, rude in person, fake as hell. give me the sh1ts when I went to service my car. funny thing is, they have heaps of awards for car sales etc on the walls, but nothing for service.

I'm glad I am not the only one treated like a fool by the Honda dealers and service department. As many posters mentioned above, the service and smile was great before I hand over my cheque, as soon as I did that I was a nobody...COMPLETELY ignored by all departments in Honda..
I notify the service department when I did my 10k , 15k and 20k service regarding the Pinging, and they did absolutely nothing but swipe me off..
I have since warned every frds and relatives to stay away from all Honda vechicles..thats after driving Honda for over 20 yrs.
I understand your feelings but it would appear it is important to separate Honda from the dealer in your case. The dealer has not treated you well at all. Have you called Honda Australia complaints to complain about them (and get a "call reference number" if you can). Would also suggest your write to them detailing your issues. Will carry more weight with them.
Also find another dealer to service your Honda if that is possible. Honda items are generally well engineered and built but they are not perfect so fail from time to time like anyone.

Irving, while I somewhat agree with you that a new car SHOULD not suffer from this kind of problem, realistically, as a fellow engineer I'm sure you'd understand that you can't make a product that is a 100% failure/problem proof all of the time.
I am a software engineer, and while I can assure you that I make every attempt to ensure that there are no bugs in the software that I create, reality is quite different. I'd say that it'd be quite unreasonable for any of my customers to expect that my software will NEVER crash because, unfortunately (both for them and for me), crashes are a reality of software.
While I don't have nearly as much experience as you in the engineering industry, only point I as a fellow CU2 owner am trying to make is that while the pinging is quite annoying, discomforting etc., it is a problem that Honda is trying to rectify.
I believe that the driving 3 full tanks of petrol before / after the fix is applied may be to ensure that any trace undesirable elements in the fuel system (or other connected systems) are assuredly gotten rid of.
My car has not yet been "fixed" but, when I spoke with the dealership, they did advise that the procedure does involve driving 3 full tanks of fuel after the fix has been applied. What happens in reality still remains to be seen.
Just my 2 cents worth...my intention is not to ruffle any feathers :)
Well, I am on my 4th tank of 98 RON fuel post-fix. Straight after the fix I couldn't notice any pinging. Now there is a very slight ping (but I should add, not bad enough yet for me to go back to the dealership). So it seems my car has "learned" to ping again?? I do drive quite sedately most of the time so maybe the ECU is tweaking the mix for economy meaning more prone to pinging?

Yes, you are correct in that they have acknowledged the problem prior to the fix. Nothing was said to me personally about running 3 tanks of fuel, but in saying that i have only had the software update done (still waiting on a knock sensor). At this point in time I am very tempted not to have the knock sensor fitted as I have done almost 5,000km since the software update & have had no further issues (in saying that I think I did hear it on 1 occasion, but it was very brief & mild so I can't be certain).Quote:

OK guys, just got the CU2 back from the 10k's service and also had the "pinging campaign" done on it.
Software update done & knock sensor replaced: my CU2 had near full tank of BP Ultra in it when it had gone in for service. After the fix was applied, the pinging IS GONE.
I can still hear the pinging but it is EXTREMELY FAINT and I do have sensitive hearing. For all intents and purposes, the pinging problem has now been resolved.
Other than that the car seems to run smoother than ever with plenty of power and pull.
Dealer did not mention the learning phase etc and three tanks of fuel requirement...

Yeah, I know the car should absolutely not ping, but this is perhaps the best Honda can do under the circumstances and perhaps it'll be gone altogother in the MY10 CU2 ...
I think I'll drive the CU2 a bit harder this time and see what happens, after all it's already done 8000km's - might do a long trip down South and let's see what happens...
Irving, If I lived in Sydney & wanted to give a car a good run there is only 1 trip I would do & it is a trip I always used to run a new car in. Go to Windsor, up the Putty Rd to Singleton, then Newcastle & back down the freeway, or the same trip in reverse. It is a great fun drive & you can really get into it in places.Quote:

I have had the new computer and knock sensor fitted 3 weeks ago.
My car has 13,000 km's.
Last week i completed 2,500 Km's driving to the Gold Coast.
There was ping at 120 km's accelerating up hills and also at some lower speeds.
These noises were less audible then before and a reasonable improvement.
Unfortunateley im not satisfied with this as i am a car enthusiast and love to rev the euro and dont wish to hear any ping shyte noises.
I will be writting to the Dealer principle and also submitting another complaint / feedback through the Honda website.
I will be asking them to revisit my car and explain why the car still has this noise. I have completed more than 3 tank fulls of 98 RON.
Remember this is not a fuel related problem, but using higher octane has its benefits except the price sucks:thumbdwn:
I stand corrected on this but i understand none of the earlier Euro models had
ping issues (please correct me someone)
My suspicions are simple the extra power tweaked from the Vtec has had some dramatic impact on certain manual and auto cars.
Could it be some sabotage on the assembly line :eek:
Anyhow im hopeful Honda will find a way to keep us as customers happy.
Its been a long road with this issue and the best we can do is keep sending the emails and letting them know when the problem goes away.
My pinging has definitely improved 80 %.
For me to be fully satisfied it will need to be 100 percent..

OK, here is my update too.
Had the fix applied (knock sensor + SW) nearly a month ago or 4000 km (more than 3 tanks of fuel)
I just came back from 2000km trip to GC. When I took the car, after the fix there was no ping at all..... well gues now... it started again, it's nothing to compare with the pinging in the past, but in between 1800 and 2200 rpm I can hear the well known pinging noise :(
I think guys, we should do something and take this matter to HA or even DFT
Here is the latest as of this morning. I received a phone call from my Dealer yesterday asking me to bring my car back for the revised update. After telling them that i was happy after the original software update they informed me it had been superseeded, so the car went back this morning.
Firstly the knock sensor was replaced which involves removal of the intake manifold, a fairly strait forward process.
The software update is now a 3 stage update that has to be done in a certain sequence for each of the 3 stages. Apparently they had a few dramas with the first few cars they did learning the proper sequence for each of the 3 stages, but now they have the routine sorted out it is a 3 hour process. The other thing I was told is that they have trouble with some ECU's not recognising the software update which apparently causes some issues. Fortunately that was not the case with my ECU.
So I guess the learning process starts again, so I will update again after 3 tanks of fuel.

Regarding the Update I had today, all I can say is I was with the Technician the whole time. there was no time wasting at all, 3 hours 5min start to finish.
I will add that as a licensed mechanic I do my own servicing, changing oil & filter every 5,000km. Genuine oil & filter costs me $58.30 plus about 1 hour of my time. I will change Auto fluid every 20,000km & that is a simple process.

Ok, mine is booked next Tuesday (fix the Oil leak and Pinging noise). Will let you guys know how it goes... The dealer sed it will took the whole day to fix both problem, so they asked me to drop the car in the morning and pick up later before close time.
Booked in for the fix next thursday, drop in the car for 2 days for other issues fix as well. Get a loan car from the dealer until i pick up my car.
Well, mine is in the workshop today. They said whole day (and I dropped the car in early!). For those that may have read my previous post, my dealership had said that they will need the car for as much time as possible as they had ONLY DONE 1 FIX so far.
Today, I dropped the car off and said I wanted to pick up when ready. The reply was "Well, I'll put down 2pm, but it's unlikely because the pinging fix will take some time. Your car is the first we're going to do!"
AAARRGGGGHHHHHH!!
Anyways, so I say, but your boss standing next to you said to me last week that I'd be the second, and they say (honestly!): "Well, the first was actually done by a Honda Tech who was showing our service techs how to implement the fix properly."
So...will post back with an update soon!
BTW...mine is in for 10,000kms + Ping + my handbrake lever has horizontal play (anyone else? there are a few that I know of).
