Nah, they are good tyres. If it was me, I would go for something alright for street like RE001 or C/S.Drive.

the tyre dude was wrong, the michelin's are great tyres IMO 260 is a good price from the quotes I got too, however michelins are better. They make more money from dunlops than they do on michelin's, most likely he wanted a sale and michelins are pricey.......how does your car feel with the new tread ?
Yeah i was so close to getting the Michelins at 240 each. This may sound stupid but i don't like the tread pattern of them, they look so conservative. I reckon the dunlops look better (more aggressive). The tyres seem real sticky and pretty soft. It rained a tonight in sydney and the tyres felt stuck to the road. so far pretty happy. Although the next tyres i might get would be the either the maxxis maz1 or kumho ku31. They get pretty good reviews and the prices are quite good (200, 210 respectively).
One thing i'm not happy about my dunlops is the "bulgy" thing. Basically realised the tyre in this particular size doesn't have the rim protector like the potenzas. i dont really know how effective these rim protectors are but i like the look of them.
rim protectors work trust me......michelins great in wet too, and yes the dunlops seem to be a softer rubber great for grip.....whats the tramlining like ?
$260? woooo i would just go for re001. It costs my frd $1100 for a set of 4 in 18' and cost me a bit more because of the wide.
It handles so nice on track and quiet on street.
Its not as bad as the stock potenzas. i got wheel alignment done aswell. i guess if i drop tyre pressures down a bit it be better (tyres at 36 psi all around)
hmmmm,i might be getting new tyres soon as well. considering RE001, C drives or S Drives as well but i'm still waiting for my current tyres to run out a bit more.
The best advice i can give anyone is to just open up the phone book and call up every tyre store to ask about the price. Will Prob take you 15 -20minutes but the savings are sure worth it.
I'm currently running the RE010's, i think they are discontinued now.(Were they the RE001's predecessors?) when i got them i was ringing up every tyre store to ask about tyre prices, every single store i called up quoted between 240-260 per corner. Then finally i got to a store in Eastwood, Sydney, they just ordered the RE010's in bulk and the savings got passed onto me at $150 per corner. I was pretty damn happy.
^^ Nope, RE010's are passenger tyres. RE001 replaces the GIII and S03.
tyre shopping can be so stressful
i'm replacing the infamous falken ziex 326 (225-40-18), ok during dry, absolute peanuts in the wet... lmao
any recommendations for good tyre places in and around southwest sydney (carbamatta)?
i'm thinking of hitting the usual beaurepaires, bob jane, bridgestone store and jaxx but I'm more than welcome to give a shot at any other good tyre stores
thx in advance!
Regarding my post about the RE010, I made a mistake, they are pretty grippy. :)
I called quite a few tyre retailers in Adelaide. Most prices for an Adrenalin 225/45R17 were around the $330 mark. Best I got was $284.
Just got a set of Pirelli Dragons in 225/45/17 for $259 each.
Wish I lived in Sydney still....$225 in inbelievable from Cheapatyres 4u.
But they are apparently about to be phased out due to Pirelli reducing there range, so no more into the country, just what is left here already...:thumbdwn:
Hi folks.
Just went and got my 40000km service, and was surprised to find I still had 6mm of tread on the front and 5mm on the back of my stock RE040 tyres. They're performing fine in the dry, but are starting to feel a bit 'flighty' in the wet, particularly if I hit a bit of re-tarred gravel or something.
I've been thinking about getting some Dunlop SP Sport Maxx's, but the tread life on the stock tyres has me thinking twice. What do you guys think?
Ive had the Pirelli Dragons for over a week now, they are ok but not as grippy as the Yoko C-Drives. They tend to squeal easier during launch and during hard cornering, plus they seem to be a bit noiser at high speed.
C-Drives > Dragons
where can i get good cheap used tyres?? thats with like 80-90% thread??? 17inch that is...
hi just wondering would any of you guys know if these wheels will suit my euro:
19" 8.5
XHP DIRTY DOG http://www.tempetyres.com.au/product...t=&part_no=903
dont know much about wheels and tyres but also is the pcd 5/114 correct for the car /? any help is preciated
Hey All
Looking at getting some new Tyres this week, been quoted $250 per wheel for Yokohama A-Drive R1 225/45R17.
Just wondering if this price is any good and also how long i would expect the tyres to last?
Cheers!
Scratch that, no stock - they have S.Drive's for $270 - any help is appreciated as i really have no clue!
i have S drives . there was talk back then on S drives VS bridgeston adrenalins.
I'm believe the adrenalins are more expensive.
anyway, onto the S drives - used them in that same size for around 20,000 kms. GREAT tyre compared to my old ones. so much grip. i have never understeered or oversteered and lost traction! (my car is auto and has no power). They are also apparently a very long lasting tyre, due to the compound of the rubber. Its served me well thus far.
overall, great tyre however i would never pay that much for tyres again. i'm wanting to try a premium korean tyre next - like kumho. see how they go.
Hey guys, not sure if you guys know but if your looking for top brands at cheap prices, we have some specials on,
heres the link to my thread in my trader forum on this specific size

i recently got a set of Pirelli PZero Nero on my 17' rims and they are brilliant. Not cheap but i got them on special ($285 per/corner) and so far so good.
Immediate improvements were noise level and grip in the wet. I was driving with OEM Bridgestone RE040's and they were starting to loose my confidence.
I have the pzero neros on my 17s as well, I've been bit disappointed...
In the wet were better than the RE040s, but not in the dry...
I tested each tire on the track as well, and was easily getting faster lap times with the RE040. Found the side walls on Pirellis really weak and would loose grip when heated up... I've used Pirellis before and have always found the side walls weak, but apparently the rossos are much better, but they cost too much
Bridgestone RE050
Money is no object? RE070. :p
Lucky choice as the only size available in OZ is 225/45R17; just right for a Euro with 17" wheels.
OEM tyre for the WRX-STi.
http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/treads/re070.aspx
No idea on price, but they are more expensive than RE01R, which are about $280 in 205/55 R16. LOL If RE070 was made in 205/55 R16, it would be over $280, then tack on 225/45 R17... OUCH!
I've heard good things about the Adrenalins as well..
Wonder if their value for money as well?
I have no hesitation saying that the Dunlop Sport Maxx is a good one. And it's available in every size imaginable except ridiculous 20" sizes for Euro!!!
Well got the S.Drive's put on today - first impression is very good, heaps better than the worn out Bridgestones (38k on them), sticks to the road! Very impressed :)
Have a trip down the Coffs coming up so will see how they go on that, may take the winding road ;)
I noticed Bob Jane has a catalogue out with Bridgestone ER 300 in 225/45/R17 advertised for $219 per corner. Bridgestone market them as a touring tyre.
Has anyone tried them out for everyday driving as opposed to spirited driving?
What is the OEM tyre on Euros these days?
Touring tyre = sedate driving.
Have you considered Toyo T1R for around a similar price?
Is anyone here running Adrenalin RE001 on their Euro in 225/45/17?
225/45/17 RE001 , RE040 and RE050....which one will you guys choose for Euro? Anyone know the price for them?
Going on past experience OEM tyres are usually not that good.I've changed them out on my last 3 cars i've bought new.
just buy the Dunlop Direzza DZ101, i bought them for $145 a pop for 17", great tyres.
RE040 is decent, RE050 is very nice (new STI comes with RE050A, old STI came with RE070). RE001 has best bang for your buck as it would most probably be the cheapest out of the 3. I am using RE001 on my car.
RE040 oem tyre. oem tyres usually cost more.
I got RE050A on at the moment, they stick like crazy, but very very noisy.
I would highly recommend Falken FK-452.
Very good value for the money.
That's funny, I needed a spare tyre back in Oct 2007 (nail thru the side wall) and at the time was informed by more than one store that the RE040 in 225/45R17 had been discontinued. So I ended up getting one RE001 and sticking it in the boot as an odd spare with the intention of getting another when the time came to get new tyres.
After reading the posts above I got back onto the Bridgestone website and low and behold there lists a 225/45/17 in the RE040 range.
Did they ever discontinue that tyre for a short period of time or did I just get dud information?
It was never discontinued. I was quoted $375 at a Tyrepower for one just a few weeks ago.
I have recently changed over from my OEM RE040 to RE001. I had the RE040 since new and after approx. 55000 K's its had enough, mostly motorway driving.
As you know, worn tyres vs new ones are hard to compare for obvious reasons but I'll do my best.
Road noise on the RE040 were very good when new and was quite impressed. Until you meet cement/concrete surfaces, especially the F1 up to Newcastle, NSW. Most tyres are fairly loud on these surfaces anyway, but the RE001 did have improvements, the cabin feels a lot more quiet. If you compare both on bitumen, basically the same.
Grip wise, the RE001 is much better. Can never seem to get VSA to kick in during hard cornering, its glued to the ground, even in the wet. Less fun of course :)
If anyone has had experience with Bridgestone's S03 then you will know these are good and for $278 per corner, why not? It's still a new tyre and hardly any reviews so people are undecided, but if you are planning to change from RE040's to RE001, its a better tyre and cheaper, you got nothing to lose.
These tyres won't last me as long as they are much softer, the only downside to them.
I was told by BTC that RE040's are discontinued but stock is still available, untill they run out.
BTW, $278 is for 225/45/R17. Includes balance plus fitting. North Parramatta BTC.
REO40 are badly over rated and not worth that much, they ripping you off or on some serious drugs as Tony1234 suggests ;)
Try Michelins PP2's they served me well till now great in the wet aswell and not that pricey as above......$270-$320 depending how hard you search.
I'm sticking to my RE001 in 205/55 R16. Paid $165 fitted and balanced at Bob Jane Hornsby!!! So much cheaper than the 17" ones.
I am using the RE040 now, is it ok to just change 1 tyre to RE001, as 3 of my tyres are still ok to use.? or it is better to change all to RE001?
Some good lock nuts?
i found bridgestone smithfield have special on re001 225/45/R17 $215 fitted and balanced
