I heard the SportsMax are pretty good tyres, but apparently pretty expensive. I got quoted like 340$ per tyre. Can i ask where you got that quote from. I'm in need of new tyres and probably opting for the Michelin Pilot Precedas (PP2) at 245$ per tyre. Any comments on the Michelins?
A Place In "Old Guildford" off Fairfield St and Donald St place is called AAA Tyres"
i reckon u could get it cheaper based on how good ur bargaining skills are lol
Finally got my tyres. I wanted to get the Michelin Pilot Precedas 2 but the tyre dude convinced me otherwise stating that they are not as good nowadays since they are made in south east asia somewhere. Ending up getting the Dunlop Sport Maxx at 260 each. For some reason the tyre does not "bulge" out as much. I remember with my Potenzas it bulges out a fair bit which protects the rims. Can anyone shed some light on why it doesn't bulge out much. The size is 225/45/17 on the '05 Lux rims.
Not a good price? Cheapest i found was 250 for the sport maxx. Most places quoted around the 280-320 mark. Went for the 260 place because its 2 mins from my house. Forgot to mention i'm in Sydney so the prices are probably bit high relative to other states.

the tyre dude was wrong, the michelin's are great tyres IMO 260 is a good price from the quotes I got too, however michelins are better. They make more money from dunlops than they do on michelin's, most likely he wanted a sale and michelins are pricey.......how does your car feel with the new tread ?

Yeah i was so close to getting the Michelins at 240 each. This may sound stupid but i don't like the tread pattern of them, they look so conservative. I reckon the dunlops look better (more aggressive). The tyres seem real sticky and pretty soft. It rained a tonight in sydney and the tyres felt stuck to the road. so far pretty happy. Although the next tyres i might get would be the either the maxxis maz1 or kumho ku31. They get pretty good reviews and the prices are quite good (200, 210 respectively).
One thing i'm not happy about my dunlops is the "bulgy" thing. Basically realised the tyre in this particular size doesn't have the rim protector like the potenzas. i dont really know how effective these rim protectors are but i like the look of them.
rim protectors work trust me......michelins great in wet too, and yes the dunlops seem to be a softer rubber great for grip.....whats the tramlining like ?
$260? woooo i would just go for re001. It costs my frd $1100 for a set of 4 in 18' and cost me a bit more because of the wide.
It handles so nice on track and quiet on street.
Its not as bad as the stock potenzas. i got wheel alignment done aswell. i guess if i drop tyre pressures down a bit it be better (tyres at 36 psi all around)
hmmmm,i might be getting new tyres soon as well. considering RE001, C drives or S Drives as well but i'm still waiting for my current tyres to run out a bit more.
The best advice i can give anyone is to just open up the phone book and call up every tyre store to ask about the price. Will Prob take you 15 -20minutes but the savings are sure worth it.
I'm currently running the RE010's, i think they are discontinued now.(Were they the RE001's predecessors?) when i got them i was ringing up every tyre store to ask about tyre prices, every single store i called up quoted between 240-260 per corner. Then finally i got to a store in Eastwood, Sydney, they just ordered the RE010's in bulk and the savings got passed onto me at $150 per corner. I was pretty damn happy.
