hey guys,

throw me something to think about...
98spec dc2r box.
dc2r has oem LSD and shorter ratio.
look to spend around $1800ish.
cheers guys - but anything out there thats non TypeR and non $1000+
im picking up the new motor tomorrow night I think... JDM B16A..
I just got a JDM B16A
Look for
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_B_engine#B16
dont think so there is any besides type r ..
ek's are 4.4fd the ek9's have lsd
dc2r are 4.4 lsd if 96spec and other models maybe..
98spec onwards are 4.7lsd!
ur definately looking at roughly 1500$ even for the 4.4's since price has inflated abit..
imo.. get a 4.7 type r box..
or maybe a 4.4box if ur planning to throw in a aftermarket gearset anyway..
wat about an em1 box? they not short enough?
em1 & ek4 have same gearbox. The actual gears are shorter than the dc2.
The b16a2 boxes have the same gear ratios as the ITR, except the ITR has a lower FD of 4.7 + the LSD.
You mean a higher FD 4.7 > 4.4
no its actually a lower final drive... its the opposite when you are talking about the final drives...
b16a2 boxes have closer 4th and 5th gear ratios then the type r gearbox... and a 4.4 final drive
however the final drive on the type r gearbox is a 4.785 so that is why they made 4th and 5th gear longer in the type r gearbox so it doesnt sit too high in the revs on the highways etc...
delsol b16a2's usually have y21 gearboxes, ek4's have the s4c,, dont know about the em1's? however they are all the same...
What are the JDM B16A box's like?
same as the other b16a gearboxes etc
B16a are the same JDM/AUDM/US etc etc
so for track work - B16A gbox would be good? Im trying to get a cable gbox as the car is cable and i don't particularly want to modify stuff for Hydraulic unless i really have to.
Im looking for something that won't have a long 5th, and fairly close 3-4-5th if 5th possible - keeping it within vtec around barbagallos which has quiet a few 3rd/4th corners and don't want to drop out of vtec too much.
Hey Mike, so for drags the same theory applies shorter ratios/ larger drive?
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...k/JdmBoxes.jpg
b16a box+ 4.928+ lsd= win for n/a applications and it works very well for track
b16a box+ lsd = win for boosted applications
what about a typeR gbox then with 4.7 FD and LSD - was suggested in the first couple posts.. good choice?
there will be no cruising - this is a track only car....
mike, there's a dude 'swoosh' selling EK9 gearbox (on our forum) for like $1300 !!! BARGAIN !!
yeah i know... i've seen it yet $1300 for me isn't a bargain LOL $500 is! i know i sound cheap but i'd rather do some wrench time in order to get the stuff cheaper.. labour for parts.
couldnt agree more 90LAN.. B-series aint cheap !! supply and demand drives the prices up and keeps them there..
you might find a destroyed B-series box for $500 LOL..
EK9 and DC2-R boxes in good condition usually go for $2,000.. get used to it..
I think Mike has an Auto box, so I dont think he'll be using what he has haha.. he'll need non-auto cams and ECU too :P
i beg to differ because i've seen B16A manual gbox for $450 in the paper a while ago... i'll just keep looking.
If not I'll just buy another wreck of a Gen3 CRX or EK and strip that down and take what I need - sell the rest.
I do want this to be a budget build - because its a budget track car... if there's a will theres a way.
the $450 B16 box was prob an old EF9/EF8/DA9 cable box.. those go for a lot cheaper but they have even taller ratios.. and with transmissions, u get what you pay for LOL.. u buy a $500 box then it fries itself and whack u up for $2k to rebuild it lol..
and EK1-whatever.. auto cams dont have the same spec. i am 90% sure there's a difference !! show me where/how u know ??
mikey MY car is a budget build LOL i havnt paid for any labour since i did my swap and it still owes me 30k..
the b16a auto cams are different to the b16a manual cams... the auto has a lower rev limit etc..
only 98 itr are 4.7
ek9's are 4.4 marko
your doing well to find a $450 b series hydro box
yeah that's what I thought - the auto cams are optimised for lower RPM peak torque and lower RPM peak HP.. I dont have the specs on me but yeah am 90% certain they are different to manual spec cams. some people actually put auto cams in their mild B20VTEC builds in the states - esp if they running boost.. so they get peak output at the lower RPM..
I can pay $2000 for a gbox and do I get a guarantee it will last? This way I get 3-4 gboxes for the price of 1. I may have a typeR box if I do the wrench work and that's fine with me. I have about 3 ways of getting a manual gbox atm for that price. I'll run what I have for now in terms of cams too. Get an ecu from the wrecker too.
Bede, my car didn't cost me anything, mounts I got at half price, same with driveshafts so far, suspension I bought for Bandit, springs will get too or cheap anyway, engine package I have atm and will get manual box even if I have to wait a year. So far cost is under $1500 for this car. The only big cost will be the rollcage IF I ever fit one. This car will run under $3000.
awsome !! good luck bro !
thanks mate ... im sure i'll see you out there soon!
out where ?? LOL u wont see me out on track - i cant afford tyres and CAMs license etc. untill i find a better job or this stoopid ecconomic downturn goes away LOL..
