Pretty sure it is limited to 7300 RPM
Just say rev limiter was not there can the k24a3 handle 8500rpm?

Very highly dough it even with cams done
you might get close but
Ok cool thanks. I was just wondering coz pretty much as soon as vtec engages rev limiter is so close.

K24 does not really need to rev high to make decent power, the factory limiter is just about spot on.
But you can get them to rev high IF you have the $$$ and its alot of $$ too
K24 is basically a stroked K20
Rotating mass of a K24 at 7000rpm is the equivalent of a K20 @ 8500rpm with respect to the stroke
Best things to do to a K24 IMO is K20R Intake cam + IM, Header/Exh, Pulleys/Flywheel and the much needed K-pro Dual if a post 2007 euro
And the maximum 45deg VTC - this is very importnat to any K24 variant and should be one of the first things you do.
bear in mind you will need Programmable ECU to run it properly too.
K24 is a very capable engine providing you choose your parts carefully.
For 7300 and above, you're looking at the minimum of uprated valve springs and seats. And then you might look at more aggressive cams to get a bit better breathing at that top end of the RPM range.
The block can do 8000rpm for moderate periods but it depends on the condition of course. I believe JDMYard has their EGK24A with a stock block doing 8000rpm. Head has nice bits though.
id be looking at uprading my oil pump to somthing that is designed to pump oil at those RPM and change the VTC before looking at upgrading my head, then again id just buy a k20 over a 24 so i dont have to worry about this kind of stuff
budget around $400 for the k20 50deg vtc actuator + labour and tuning (if you have a sensor-bender capable enough)
alternatively you can get the oem k24 vtc machined to whatever you like, its a little cheaper.
DO NOT TUNE TO RUN MORE THAN 45DEG MAX VTC - valves & pistons become one.
On my EGK24A we limit it to 8000 rpm for circuit racing and 8400 rpm for Drag Racing.
Im still using stock K24A3 oil pump . Stock block . Buddyclub N+ cams , Buddyclub dual valve springs , Buddyclub titanium retainers , 50 degree VTC.
Had the motor since 2007 and still using the same motor till today.
So when you guys say K20, do you mean just the head or the whole engine?
The K24 has a bigger deck height than the K20... not sure if that comes from a thicker head gasket or if the actual head is different.
The stock K24a3s will go to 7600rpm reliably with the stock valvetrain - as Chris F has proven. Beyond that and you'll get valve float. It's hard to say where the stock cams will stop making more power... but with an RBB it's around 6800rpm and with an RBC/RSP you could assume it'd be more around 7200-7400rpm.
Not too sure if the OEM computer is that flexible to be honest.
ECU should be the number 1 thing to change - everything else is borderline on pointless without it
Shit guys sorry to bump such an old thread...
But alot of good info in here
ECU should be first mod for tuning K24A3 !!! And don't waste time on swaping K20 head on K24A3 block, you won't gain more then stock head + Intake camshaft from TSX 06-08 + VTC 50 deg. gear. With OEM oil pump safe rev limit is 7600 rpm, valvetrain can handle more as camshafts lifts isn't high, limit is oil pump with it's oil cavitation after ~ 7800 rpm. For more rpm's better to change oil pump to K20 (need some moding and oil pan) or plug and play ERL's S2000.
Yup
No need to rev k24a above 8000rpm
Enough low end torque
If going above 8000rpm, good idea to swap k24 oil pump for the k20 pump + valve train
Ive tuned a few K24 too 8000rpm. Internally stock with 50vtc and the usual boltons

We've pushed k24a3 for circuit work to 8000rpm. So it'll take 8000rpm for street application just fine.
Bang for buck mod -
VTC GEAR
KPRO
Good headers
RBC intake manifold (top end power)
Tunable ECU
These mods alone should get the motor to open up and make power up too 140-150kw atw. This is evident on over 10x k24a3 we have tuned with similar mods.
Isn't Kpro a tunable ECU :-S
Ill get scared when driving and i see it go past redline lol. Ill try it soon flashpro may be getting tested in my car fairly soon (end of jan)
Flashpro needs a USDM post facelift ECU ain't it?, in that case wont you get CEL's for the purge valve and fuel tank pressure valve mismatches?
Thats why its getting tested first. Its like a pre release test. But wiyh flashpro im pretty sure you can turn off cels
you won't make any gain with 50 deg. on low cam, I see only 45-40 deg benefits. BTW I have K-Pro and tried 50 deg, there is no any P2V contact with OEM camshafts ;)
My redline is at 8300rpm....Removed stock oil pump and replaced with FD2R one... Used the Toda balancer killer kit.....
Given I don't go to 8300rpm all the time.... Motor has seen 2 track days so far and no issues....
40deg vtc using Toda spec C cams...
Stock bottom block...
Yes. Toda valve springs...
He won't say, he's a gentleman ;)
But its quite substantial
Haha awesome :D
253hp @ the hubs...
Post dyno sheet soon...
great results, good tune is the key for power ;)
Any more updated info on k24a3 engines to date???
