no replacement for displacement.
it's a lie the h22 doesn't exist
jk. you'll get a much flatter torque curve out of a h22.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_H_Engine
Honda H Engine
The Honda H engine was Honda's high-performance engine family from the 1990s and early 2000s. It is largely derived from the Honda F engine with which it shares many design features. Like Honda's other 4-cylinder families of the 80s and 90s, it was replaced by the Honda K engine. It has also enjoyed some success as a racing engine, forming the basis of Honda's Touring car racing engines for many years, and being installed in lightweight chassis (such as the Honda CRX) for use in drag racing. The F20B, though technically coded part of the F-series family of engines, was basically a destroked version of the H22A. It was developed for Honda to be able to enter into the 2-liter class in racing.
H-Series was consisted of 2 different displacements; H22 (2.2L) and H23 (2.3L). Both versions were using the same short block; different crankshafts and connecting rods were utilized to achieve displacement variation.[1]

Found in the American 5th gen Prelude Base and Type-SH (BB6). It produces 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) @ 7,000 rpm & 156 ft·lbf (212 N·m) @ 5,250 rpm and comes with a black valvecover.
Found in the Canadian 5th gen Prelude Base, Type-SH, and SE (BB6). It produces 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) @ 7,000 rpm & 156 ft·lbf (212 N·m) @ 5,250 rpm and comes with a black valvecover.
Found in the Australian 1997-1998 Prelude VTi-R and VTi-R ATTS (BB6). It produces 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) @ 7,000 rpm & 156 ft·lbf (212 N·m) @ 5,250 rpm and comes with a black valvecover.
If your looking at doing an engine swap into a Civic, the simple way would be to go a B or K series swap, but to be different, the H22 was swapped in. A lot of American drag cars previously, but not so much now run a H2B (H22A with B series gearbox).
H22A would probably be the most under rated engine Honda has released in my opinion (I know other people will differ). Very good starting point for modification, but never became as well known due to the more popular B & now K series aftermarket support.
A mildly tuned n/a H2B set up would be good for low 12's or even high 11's down the quarter. There have been examples that are running mid to low 10's in America (all motor class) and are even more of a blast once f/i comes into the equation.
it depends what your opinion on 'better' is
b18 is a smaller motor, but is durable and pretty much a standard for an engine swap
don't see many h22s - i don't even know how well it fits in EK engine bay considering it's from preludes and that; it will give alot more torque and alot more power but seems to me that it will be a lot more effort to maintain and have perfect..
^^^^ lol simple way is a k
Simple way is b series
H22 more torque and it's different.
Everyone does b series and k series
Or you could be awesome like me and do a F20B. But good luck finding one :p
I don't think a k is simpler than a b..
although i think there is more aftermarket support for it if that's what tou meant
inb4 2jz in civic
why not?
ls1.
ynot?
F2K conversion (F20C with K series gearbox), built n/a with big cams & ITB's good for 10 sec pass =]

do it for mad e-reps.
but srs if your going swap k probably has more parts available and b is easier ifunowatimsayin
i will say 2.2 liter stronger than 1.8liters but anyway hyundai i20 making power and less gasolines Whether you’re looking for an easy and economical urban drive or the versatility to head out of the city every now and then, i20 is a car that’s ready to go.
With a 1.4 litre 16-valve engine and available in either a super-slick 5-speed manual transmission or HiVec automatic transmission that adapts to your driving style, i20 delivers the power and fuel economy you demand. And with a fuel consumption of just 6.0 litres per 100 km for the 1.4 manual≠, i20 lets you go further.
that jseries
would have to chop bonnet
prettysure
milkmun you do

I never said simple. Just throwing up an idea. There is a guy from the east cost of America that has done it. Was covered in a Honda Tuning Mag a couple of issues ago
those photos were old news - my bad.

Hmm seems to me like H22 motors are underrated? But sound pretty good. I found that most preludes have them.
And yes this is for a civic, but i'm still leaning more towards a b18 engine for now :D
Thanks for your responses people :D
The H22a isn't bad. Nice torque, pulls quiet hard.
Personally I'd choose the B18 over the H.
Thing that lets the H down is the gearbox... It's honestly a bag of poop.
And by the the time you go H2B, you can have a much better and advanced motor in the Kseries.
if your going b18c2.... b16a gearbox is the way to go!
y u no like h22 gbox?
because torque
never noticed i suppose
