    Question B18C1 Issues

***Edit - now doesn't cold start***
    Also - It's B18C2 - typo
    Hi All,
Have a few queries for you, I've had a look around the forums and can't quite find the exact issues I'm facing - not sure if this is the right section or not. I've taken the car (VTi-R) in multiple times to my local mechanic, but I might have to take it into a pro to have these fixed.

    Issues:
    - When fully warmed up the thermo needle only goes up to 1/3rd of the scale and the car idles as low as 200-600 RPM. I've had an instance where the car has stalled as the revs had dropped too low. Now I feather the accelerator to keep the revs around 1000 RPM. Also if I go on a short trip (30 mins) and stop the car once fully warmed up, it struggles to turn back on. The starter motor clicks over, but the engine never ignites. I have to wait 5-10 mins and the engine will start. Could it be the ECU malfunctioning on warm starts? Cold starts are fine. Is it a thermostat issue?

    - There is a rattling noise coming from behind the engine block. I've done some research and people have mentioned it may be the exhaust heat shield. Any ideas around this?

Thanks in advance for your responses, and apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I've got a 94 VTi-R and have experienced similar issues. I often find myself having to wait 5-10 minutes at the petrol station
just to get the car started again lol.

    - What year is your car? If your thermostat hasn't been replaced yet then it would be good to do so now.

Also give the IACV a good clean:

    Hope that helps

Does it start then stall after driving? try this! pull out the PGMFI Main Relay, remove the outside casing and apply solder to all the bits of solder that are already there (don't join ones that weren't previously joined though) or if you've got some money, replace it! It's a bit of a shot in the dark so I suggest you do the soldering option as your not losing money if it doesn't work.

It solved my problem and hopefully yours!

    Thanks again -
But the car's taken a turn for the worse - It now doesn't even cold start.
I'll try these two fixes, but I think there's another problem.

A mate thinks it might be the ECU.

If I can't get it running myself, a tow to a local mechanic is in order.

Jack the car up,get under there and look for the rattle.

    It's a hard one...

My immobiliser was preventing my car from starting when it was too hot (at the track)..

I know your car isnt that hot but do U have an immobiliser?

Can someone help this man please.

Just had a call from the mechanic. The fuel pump was causing the issues. While it's there I'm having them clean the IACV and look at the thermostat.

    Will update later. Thanks guys.

I have the same issue (rarely) on my CRX. Drive it for an hour, then warm start it again and it'll stall, then won't start again. Wait 2-3 minutes and it starts fine.

Walbro 255 fuel pump going in tomorrow and SARD fuel pressure regulator. ITR TB/IM also going in. Should fix it for good yeah?
