    Knocking/Ticking.

Keep getting a random ticking/whining sort of sound under 2k rpm. I have no idea what it is, anyone know?

    Its a D16Y4 EK 2000.

try filling up with 98 octane petrol next time. that is the premium type petrols so mobil 8000, bp ultimate, vortex 98 or shell v-power. have a search on the forum there are some good discussions on which one of those are better

Could you explain at all where the noise is coming from, does it do it in every gear, when did it start, does it ever go away (still under 2000rpm) and so on to build a picture.

    Thanks

Sort of, it sounds a bit like a supercharger if I give it a bit of revs. That could be my induction though.

Yeah kinda hard for me to tell where its coming from as I am deaf. But I would say the block/cams a mate said the same thing too.

Every gear I can hear it under 2000 rpm

this may sound weird but could you just check your power steering fluid, if its too low or the pump isnt at its best days it can make a whining like a blower and will come and go depending on revs. If you do narrow it down to be the power steering pump, best way to check if you have the mechanical ability is to simply remove the power steering belt and run the engine.

Where would I find the power steering fluid?
N/M found it, its about a quarter from the top. So pretty full.

Another quick test you can do is one of my favourites for finding noises, vibrations and grinding is to get a fairly long screwdriver (preferably with a hard handle) and CAREFULLY press the tip against the back of the ps pump and with the handle firmly pressed against your ear, works like a microphone. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING
