Are you guys kidding?! I would always get between 6-7L per 100kms. My worst was 8.04L/100kms, and that was when i did an advanced driving course with it. The car has a 45L tank. Ive got Excel sheets to show fuel prices and km's driven on how many L's.

My new sedan which is MPFI with a DOHC ZC gets between 7-9. I dont get why it varies so much because my driving doesnt.

Is that manual or auto? It is still early days so lets see what the next tank gets. The other thing is the car is being used for very short trips - eg to the train station just 1km away, to the local supermarket etc. Not ideal environment to get good figures. I have the Euro for more extended trips.

im pretty sure if running a higher octane fuel on older carby engines that arent made for it the timing should be matched to suit (so yes, a tune is whats needed). I personally wouldnt bother with running the higher octane fuel if its going to cause pinging.
I know my mate had this problem with his honda city and he is the same... will not use anything but PULP. Our trade school teacher said the timing needed to be advanced if running the higher octane fuel or it would ping.
Im pretty sure that advancing it a few degrees helped it quiet a bit.

I could be wrong.. someone correct me if i am. Just what i can recall from my trade school teacher and my mates conversation.

I am actually suggesting the opposite - if I run on low 91 octane the engine will lightly ping. It is tick tick tick tick.... Apparently it has done this for years and years... I put in high octane and it is pretty much silent. I am sure with a good tune, new leads and spark plugs etc it could be resolved but I am avoiding pouring money into this car save for what absolutely needs to be done (+ regular servicing).

its a 45l tank. I get around 500km a tank in the city and over 600 on the highway. I have tuned my carbies for optimum performance and i also run 98oct fuel. Ive set my timing to 25deg advanced and it doesnt ping EVER.
It has extractors and from the front pipe its 2.5" all the way to the twin cannon setup in the rear

Even when its extremely hot It makes plenty of power and has no problems spinning up the 215s its runnin

seeing its 200k then i suggest changing your timing belt too

ph btw... ur car wont ping if ur timing is not advanced enough. thats a load of crap

If your cars pinging, then i suggest u adjust the timing uptil it goes away, then go back a further 2degs so that it doesnt come back just because its a hotter day.. Or you can just run higher octane fuel and set your timing higher till it pings, then come back till the pings gone, then go back couple more degs and you'll be fine

I find cleaning or replacing my spark plug/air filter & cleaning the points in the distributor cap improves economy, performance and idle quality.

sorry wasn't to clear about what i meant, its the electrodes(not points) that hang down on the insides of the distributor cap (not the distributor) after a period of time it builds up some residue which impedes the spark coming from the rotor.
