Accord VTi vs Euro Std review

I had my 40K service today on my Euro and they gave me an 07 Accord VTi for the day so just I'd post my comparisons.

Most obvious thing was the performance. Both are 2.4's are I' sure you all know but the Euro's is heaps quicker. The redline in the VTi was only 6500 and had no vtec kick at all (does it even have vtec?). There's also no midrange surge at 3-4000 rpm.
Suspension wise it's a much softer ride. Handling isn't as good and it doesn't have traction control at all (no VSA). I'm not sure if it even has a rear antisway bar. It also seems to sit a little higher than the Euro.
Inside it's much the same except no audio control's on the steering wheel at all (there is the cruise control buttons though). This I thought was a huge downer on this car as it's an option even my wife's old '01 Barina had.
The size of the car seems a little bigger at the front and rear. The rear seat room is bigger than the Euro by at least 10cm's or so. It had no handle in the boot lid to close the boot so you have to grab the paint work all the time. A big bummer in my books as I'm in and out of my boot all day everyday.

Good to know the Euro is still the best of the Accords as I've now driven them all, Euro Std and Lux and Accord VTi('07) and V6('03). V6 was the best engine wise (obviously) but overall the Euro wins hands down.

According to your bio it says you have the the Auto Euro, you haven't driven the best Accord you can get your hands on till you've driven a 6spd Manual Euro. Obviously this is my biased opinion but I thought I would bring it up since you are talking about the performance of the car, 6MT Euro is the way to go. Give that a drive if you haven't already and you would be pleasantly suprised how much the auto is holding back the engines potential.

While both of them sharing the almost similar 2.4L engine, Euro have double intake in the engine while the normal Accord only have single intake. Euro requires premium unleaded fuel to run the engine efficiently. All Euros built in Japan, normal Accord and even the V6 model were built in Thailand. The interior design is similar but the fit and finish quality in Euro is higher, I feel the interior material is also quite different between the two. Euro is even a better drive if you've tested the 6 speed manual version.

No, the Euro has a single intake runner as well. The block of the Euro is tougher and has a balanced crank and lighter internals. The Euro's head as VTEC also on the exhaust cam, which is what the Accord doesn't have.

I drove the Accord VTI Auto for a day, and yeah its definitely a more conservative car, especially compared to the 6MT Euro.

The VTI's handling was a bit disorientating and indirect at times, although its a smoother ride over rough surfaces.
Performance was a bit disappointing, even compared to a 5AT Euro (22/16kw less, and 100kg heavier)
Steering felt lacking, there was not much feedback especially around corners.
But on a good note, the gear changes were smooth and accurate, as like other K series auto boxes. But you really need to rev the crap out of the engine to get decent acceleration. It would have been nice if it came with a 6MT box
The interior was basically the same in quality and materials, although the leather and electric seats were nice.

For the price, its not a bad deal, but I would rather get a second hand euro rather than a new VTI

Thanks for correcting me Aaron. I knew it was mentioned elsewhere in Ozhonda before but I don't quite remember clearly

nice review but remember, they are 2 totally different cars so i wouldnt compare the 2.

also the pricing has alot to do with selling these, we are sellin the VTi for 30k, the VTi-L for 32k, now a stnd euro starts around 37k with no leather!
but once again totally different cars...

    Different cars, different markets.
im not biased, i just tell it how it is.
