There is a thread or two in the site discussion forum where I have explained the reasoning behind the PQ points system.
The other option is ti get rid of the green dots and the points so that people aren't too focussed on it.
A quick history (again):
1. People were just signing up to sell things and not contributing to the forum / helping others out
2. We then put a post count restriction. This resulted in people just posting to get their post count up (ie with silly replies)
3. We then introduced a post count and time restriction. This still didn't address the problem of people not contributing / helping others out
4. Hence why the PQ points system was brought in. It basically meant that you had to be a member for a short period of time AND help another user out in return for being able to buy / sell. A small 'price' to pay given that the For sale forum is only for private use.
ever considered a seperate registration system for the sale thread. That would solve the issue.
just like you have to register to OzH, you have to register to use the for sale thread.
but who will review the registrations?
how will we decide who is eligible to use the for sale forum.
Problem is, there won't be anything stopping people from registering on Ozhonda and then registering to use the For Sale section? Also, there won't be a quantifiable criteria for determining who is eligible and who isn't. And if it is left totally to the discretion of the moderators, people will start complaining about unfairness.

The current system with the 90 days and 1 PQ point works alright. It's just that people turn that PQ point green block thing into some popularity contest, which is silly. It's an internet forum, everyone is an equal. I am equal to you, except that I am not allowed to swear/attack/troll, and also have to clean up the threads where there are swearing/attacking/trolling occuring....
I wonder if there is a way to totally hide those green blocks from view, while keeping the PQ system in place.
But by doing that. Doesn't it defeat the purpose of having PQ points?
Is there a way for everyone just to have 1 green block. But when you actually hover over, it tells you how many points u have ? ie 1 block and 300 points.
I dunno...green blocks just remind me of 'post count' and how that turned into a competition. Green block gnagsters are going down the same path i believe.
