IF your gonig cheap.. save your pennies for a decent kits. Go cheap now and say bye bye for the motor

Try one of those SRI with the turbine in the middle.
Cheap

So on average, how many km's would you get from a turbo'd R (or B series in general, with stock internals) before having to rebuild the engine or change any of the internals ?

kind of a useless question.
could go for 100 000km. could go for 1km.
so maybe the average is 50 000km? but thats just a meaningless figure.
the main point people are trying to make, is that if you dont have the money to do it properly - ie quality parts and a GOOD TUNE, then dont do it at all, because if you make a half arsed effort, and skimp on parts, labour, or the tune, the lifespan of the engine will be significantly reduced.

well the hks bolt on set up is worth about $2800. n the garrett honda bolt on kit is worth $4000. To my understanding, hks have garrett turbine's in their own housing, so would it be fine going with the hks?

Mate don't do it... Just sell your car, and buy a car that is already turboed (Evo, Sti, S15 etc etc).
If you don't have the money to repair it once it breaks, just don't do it.
Or if you are adament on doing it, buy a seperate B18, and build that one up slowly... pop that one in, and drive and go nuts. If one day it goes BANG, then just pop the original motor in. Cars sell for more when they are stock aswell, so putting the stock motor back in will be better for your pocket in the long run.
Just my 2c.

Twin turbo it.
Don't be a pussy.

where did you find the hks kits for $2800?

smart boy
plus rear wheel drive cars with heaps of power are way cooler then front wheel drive turbos
but a small front wheel drive car beating all these skylines and s15's is also cool...
oh decisions decisions

Your username is fitting.
Other than avoidable problems (tuning, poor assembly, cast ringlands etc) reliability comes down to thermal management. Engines die from overheating, so keep it cool and you'll be sweet.
