when in doubt mate go the factory recommended oil, Honda oil and filter ftw, may seem dear compared to other brands but is worth it in protecting your engine. You think that Honda's Engineer's didn't do proper testing to ensure a balanced product, I've taken the pepsi challenge in the past with oils and it's your car, it's worth using proper lubricants.

Damn, my reply is late. Sin0 is a 0w-50 oil, which is thicker than 10w-40.

It's good. Once my 4 bottles of Edge 5w-30 that I bought for $30 is finished, I'm going back to 8100.

Magnatec will be fine. Just change it every 7000km maximum.

Black smoke or white-blue smoke? Change the PCV valve first. You can use 10w-40, but I don't think it will make much of a difference.
