    HU installations melbourne

I got an pioneer hu and want to get it installed. Was gonna get a mate to do it but looked a bit and found that it involves taking out a ****load of things like glovebox and so forth so then i opted for strathfield but upon further reading i heard a shitload of horror stories from them installing audio stuff, then called autobarn and they said something along the lines of $100 plus anything else thats needed to install it. so basically does anyone know where i can get my HU installed for a decent price? My cars an 05 civic if it makes a difference. Thanks in advance

It takes more than 5 minutes to isntall a head unit. I've done several installs and civics are troublesome (depending on year). u have to take all the lower panels off, get the HU out, then do the wiring (usually using a wiring loom - this takes the longest. Then testing to check if everything works and putting it all back together. I'd say give it a couple of hours, do it slowly and u should be set.

just google the work instructions. u can find the instructions out there somewhere

$100+ ?!?! most specialists charge less than that....

you could do it yourself easily by getting a wiring harness/loom. helps to know how to take off your trim too.

if you dont try the $100 jb place then give freeway, tower or stylyn a call.

    Cd - Standard Install

Front Speakers - 6-6 1/2" Shallow Speakers. Cant buy too deep speakers because of the clearance of the window.

    another noob question lol (sorry)
but when i buy speakers and an amp what should i look for in terms of watts?
like the head unit is 50x4 so does that mean the speakers can only handle 200 watts? and the amp should be at least 400?

the 50x4 thing generally means how much power the h/u can put out. It's usually around 10-12rms give or take. So if you buy some new speakers and intend on running them off the headunit, it will sound pretty crap.

Generally, watts don't mean very much. Its the Rms output that is important. You always see budget amps promoting how much wattage they can put out ie 2000watts max. Thats not important. Generally speaker Rms output ranges between 45rms-100rms depending on brand, price, quality etc. So a reputable brand amp (2 or 4 channel depending on how many sets of speakers you are running, personally I'd go 4 channel for more flexibility) that puts out 80-100rms per channel would be sufficient. It's always better to overpower your speakers then underpower to minimisse clipping and frying of voice coils.

    Hope that helps

So if you pick up a pair of speakers that have a 80wrms rating, grab an amp that puts out 100wrms. Just go into a store, ask them how much rms the speaker/amp puts out. If they dont know, then they dont know there stuff.

Have a look at the Soundstream Lil Wonder III, they put out somethin like 75-100rms per channel (4 channels), so thats pretty decent. Also with 4 channel amps, you have the option of running 2 sets of splits through the 4 channels or running 1 set and bridging channel 3+4 to run a sub. Like I said, it offers flexibility, but personally I'd just run mono for sub and 4 channel for 2 sets of splits. I enjoy sound quality :P
