    VTEC-E .. 3stage D series vtec (civic vei) (jdm d15b) in AU??

    Kind of a broad question.

I have been looking into Vtec-E (which is basically just D series vtec engines, tuned/setup for economy rather than performance).

    There are 2 variants.

The Australian delivered D15Z1?? That was in the 93-95 EG Civic VEI (only cam in 4 door here as well).

This had a 2 stage vtec.. but instead of high and low cams, it ran on 3 valve and then a pin went through the rocker at around 2.5K rpm to run the 4th valve as well.. this was just for better fuel economy.

now the second variant was the JDM d15b.. which had two sets of vtec, the 3 and 4 valve vtec setup as well as the traditional high and low cam vtec.

My point is.. is anyone running this JDM 3 stage vtec D15b? Or does anyone know if you can buy them from importers (i doubt any honda wreckers would bother importing such an engine??)

i guess no one here is running one? They are obd2 as well i think, would be a little bit of a wiring headache

K-series has only 1 solenoid, hence 2 stage.

These engines are capable of fantastic fuel economy, up to 28klm/litre!!! but when Vtec-Yo-ing it, also put out 130hp, you can get them imported, but most importers dont recognise them as a "performance" engine, you would have to slap some money down and get them to search for a half-cut for you, that way you also get the funky CVT gearbox that they came with, and all the wiring and computer bits u need. It could take some time, but the end result would be some sleeper fun

so does anyone run the 3 stage d15b??

i am toying with the idea.. probably easiest to put into an EK.. they are all obd2?? Then import a jdm d15b and ecu.. and connect it up.. may require some basic wiring from the ecu to the solenoid setup etc?

d16y1 is the performance d series engine i think... the one from the eg civic vti?
same as the d16y8 basically right? from what i remember... the one in the ek civic coupe (96-98, not the em1s im talking bout the ej8s)

theres also another vtec-e engine out here in aus, the d16y4 that came in the ek civic vti.. vtec-e (12v 0-2500/3000 then 16v @2500/3000)

yeh i was looking into the JDM d15b before(not to be mistaken for usdm d15b)... awesome engine... importing would be the most pain i assume... but dang that engine would be worth it i reckon...
from what i hear the cvt/multimatic tranny that came with the d15b was pretty good compared to the other cvts we have here...

http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/ look about halfway down... says they came in the "EK3 VTi and Ferio Vi"
i love this part... duno if its true though...

    yeah,

but seeming as though there would be no d15b jdm engines in the country.. and it seems the manual ecu for this engine is a bit rare.. etc etc

    big headache,
