    V8Supercars Homebush 2009

I'm curious what people's reactions are to this event, to be held late 2009 around the streets of Homebush?

I would be interested in comments, both for and against, or even if you don't care one way or the other.

There's no Civics, Integra's, NSX , or S2000's racing, so count me out. I hate the fact we live in a country where the top (so they consider it) racing class is made of 2 different cars, both running dinosaur technology (pushrod V8's lol) and this will cost all of us in one way or another (taxes to pay for it)

Super GT here would be much better if it could ever be arranged.

    Thats my devalued 2 cents

Apparently they haven't even built the Townsville track yet due to difficulties with the land (it previously being a swamp or something). They put a bulldozer on it and it had to be rescued after it sank!

The long range weather forecast for the area is for heavy monsoonal rains so beats me how they will get the facilities finished for the scheduled round early 2009.

I think V8SA is struggling, what with Holden and Ford pulling sponsorships, and now the V8SA have set up a Commission to look at how they can convince other manufacturers to come in.

They need Government (read: taxpayers $$$) to prop them up. Shame Rees caved in to them here after Carr rejected them and Iemma held out for so long.

I agree with your idea of a more interesting category, like Super GT. More makes, more stylish cars, better technology, high speeds, great sound.

Didn't Toyota want to come into the series a couple years back? I think the vast majority of people involved in V8 Super Cars were against it...

Whats the situation on the topic now? Do they still want only Holden & Ford or are they open to other manufacturers?

Ford have pulled nearly all their sponsorship except for a couple of teams, and Holden are struggling with their teams. They now have to deal with Walkinshaw as well, as he's just relieved Skaife of HRT. Holden have closed some of their factories since they are importing more cars now from places like Korea.

The motorsport press have run with the Toyota story on numerous occasions but Toyota aren't interested because they would have to build a car to V8SA specs.

My opinion is Ford/Holden have continued to perpetuate the myth that Australia is a big country and we should all drive big cars. Not so anymore. It's cheaper to fly than drive long distances, and caravans are a thing of the past (in my experience anyway).

That's why smaller cars, like Hondas, are better suited to our driving needs. The reason the big 3 are in trouble in the US is because they refused to see that the time of the big petrol guzzler is over. It's almost the same here.

i think its too hard for a new manufacturer to enter v8 supercars now with the rules they have in place...

Stupid name in the first place, V8 Supercars even though its still the Australian Touring Car Championship or whatever... Using parts that aren't even Australian (American, Japanese, European) yet they refuse to open it up cause they're still trying to protect the "Australian" manufacturers Ford and Holden even though a big portion of their cars are or will be imported... *rant rant rant*

They need more circuits street and GT circuits but where? =|

As the current rules and teams stand, you're not going to get anything in at all. I say just kill the stupid V8 Supercar shit and open it up before their patroitic Aussie shit got up their ass and started banning cars for no reason other than they beat the shit out of their best cars...
