Cooling system problem!! Pls help! My car is now left on Flinder street.

    Hi all,

My car has just got problem, i had to leave it on a lane of Flinder street and backed home by a taxi.

My car is Honda Civic 1994 GLi. The problem is: the radiator's plastic tube, which is connected with rubber hose to lead coolant to engine has broken up completely. May be because it is too old. After the the engine turned off automatically. There is no way to seal it.

I think the only way to do is to buy a new radiator. Is that right??

If not so could you pls suggest me some advices.

What should I do in this case? Call a tow truck service? Call some mechanic to come to the place? Could I buy a new radiator and change it by myself or I must have it fixed in a honda garages

And if it is possible, could you give me the instruction page for cooling system of Honda Civic repair manual book!! (I'm looking for it but i havent found it).

Ah, i forgot, one more question: Do coolers (fan) have to run once the engine is started or not??? Or they will run only when the engine is too hot?

I ask that because when I start the engine, the coolers dont work. Is that a problem??

Thanks! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you guys!!

tow truck it if its on flinders straight away dude.

if its the hose from the radiator to the engine, then don't worry too much that can be replaced. just pop into any bursons stall or i think some supercheaps. you can pick yourself up a new hose.

sorry just read, ur plastic tube is broke, yeh replace the radiator with another from the wreckers. there's plenty at the wreckers.

do not leave ur car along flinders as it may most likely be towed away and a impound find is expected. or a parkin fine will be issue at the same cost as a tow truck if ur a westerner i know someone who would do a 50 towing in the morning for u. but kinda left it late, if ur going to tow now, your gonna have to pay a call out fee. try and get another car to help tow with the engine off.

    Thanks mate!!

Firstly, dont worry about fine because the place I'm parking my car now is permitted until tomorrow morning.

Secondly, do you know any wreckers around here? I could come to with my friend to find out the needed part.

Finally, could you give me the contact of that "$50 towing guy"!! I wonder why you said : "if ur a westerner"?? If not so it is impossible, isnt it??

    Cheers again mate!

Ah, I understand what you meant about "westerner". I'm living in Hawthorn, it means quite far from there. . Anyway I will try to call him and see if he can or not.

I know the permit will expire at 7am so I will come to my car very early tomorrow morning.

As your advices, I have found a big wreckers for Honda (I think so) in Keysborough. I will call to ask for raditor tomorrow morning. However, if you know more, pls let me know.

    Thanks a lot mate,

call a tow truck early tomorrow, do that asap. dont worry too much about the radiator, a replacement would cost you 50-100.
around 50 on ozhonda and 80-100 from hondwreck, hondaworld and another in caroline springs.

.. he's talking about a replacement radiator only not installment as well, if that was what you were implying by 'service'?
Might wanna take a look at your hoses while you're replacing the radiator as well
    Why hello there

Cooling fans are switched by hot water in engine.
When there is no hot water, fans are off.

    Thanks all guys,

I have fixed it temporarily and drove it home because no any tow trucks works today.

If anybody has a spare radiator (Honda Civic 1994 4 doors), pls sell it to me!!

    Happy new year all!
