I think you a referring to a typical lazy switch where people cut if off from behind the dash/near the ECU...bad idea...the theif will already have his nose poking around this area...kill switches MUST be isolated from the alarm and underneath the drivers side dash.

Also if you cut-off the ground and run the equivilant or larger gauge wire than the existing one you have no problems with resistance or faulty relay switching designs. Also means you only have to run the wire one way so no double backs which is what also tips off theives.




To my understanding the main point of these devices is to alert you, your car has been broken into and immediantly attend to it. Retrival can have issues as you said, if its a smart theif (chances are if he/she has gotten past all this they are) then they would have methods to detect where they're hidden.



As i said in an earlier post. The effort that goes into the install and extent to which it is hidden and placed is what limits or unlimits an alarm installation. I can gaurentee you I could make a car that a theif would not even attempt to spend time on unless they knew they had an hour and no chance of getting caught (such as a tip off/family member). However it would take me several days to install and get everything running.

However that still doesn't prevent them from towing your car...there are ways around that too...a tilt sensor/sms/2-way alarm will tell you that its being towed and then you attend to it immediantly or you remove/lock the towing eyes. It all comes down to how much effort you/alarm tech is willing to put in.

The saying still sticks "Where there's a will, there's a way" however you have to remember...you have time, they don't. Think Smart, Install it Hard...

If they know or sense you have an alarm this good, they won't even try...there will ALWAYS be people with less security and less risk than someone that has an Enthusiast/Paranoid level security system. According to Australian Statistics only 7% of the motor vehicles stolen each year are equipped with immobilisors. and over two thirds of the cars that are stolen are pre 1990's and are stolen by amatuers simply for a ride or to commit crime in.

i tip i once got from one of my installers was to get a different colour lcd such as a super bright blue

as some theives can tell the alarm brand by the intensity and colour of the lcd

then they are already a step ahead because they know what they are dealing with before they touch a thing

(and ofcoarse don't display stickers for the brand of alarm but i hope that a given these days)
