personally. i would never go 10,000km between oil changes, regardless of the type of oil being used. Sure, many would consider it over servicing, but it is cheap preventative maintenance. For me it is oil change & filter every 5,000km. If you use genuine Honda FEO Oil, Filter & washer its $48 bucks & a few minutes of your time.

If this is not the case, 10,000km on the break-in oil is a long time... someone correct me if i'm wrong (i'm a newb to honda's)

They didn't change the oil at 1000km on our CU2. I thought it was at 10,000km too. Might change to some fully synthetic at 5,000km though (is fully synthetic ok for such a young engine?)

I thought it states clearly on the log book? My Civic log book does... it describe what Honda will do on each services (things to check and things to replace)

I just checked the CU2 logbook and there's no oil change for 1,000km.

I would not use full synthetic oil at 5,000km. Use genuine Honda FEO oil, then switch to Fully Synthetic if you wish to at 10,000km.....personal opinion

Special break in oils now days. They are full of molybdenum.

I suspect break in oils are a thing of the past or are only used on specific cars. My Integra Typre R '01 (DC2) had break in oil when I bought it. The oil was extremely thin compared to normal oil and an oil change was scheduled for and performed at 1000km.

I asked the dealer if my new CU2 had break-in oil and after checking with the service manager he said no. This was confirmed when i changed the oil to full synthetic the other day. The original oil had normal viscosity.

My old CL9 was 1000kms too. But that oil was just a cheap mineral I believe with little protection, hence the short lifespan. Viscosity has nothing to do with it.

How many K's did you change the Oil at for your CU2?

    Which Oil did you use?

I will change oil & Filter at 5000km, & will use Genuine Honda FEO oil. At 10,000km I will switch to Mobil 1 synthetic, & thereafter change oil & filter @ 5000km intervils. Auto Trans Oil will be changed every 20,000km.

I changed the oil at about 120km (only because I didn't get a chance to change it earlier). I used Mobil 1 5W-30 because it meets Honda specifications (even though all of the Mobil 1 full Synthetic oils exceed API SL): http://www.mobil1.com.au/products/product_5W30.aspx. I use 5w-50 in my Type R because I do track days.

I've used Mobil 1 for a long time now and I know it can handle constant high RPM when I'm on the race track. I'm sure there are other full synthetics out there that are comparable but I guess I stick with what I know until something better comes along. I remember the ad with Peter Brock stating that he had seen an engine stripped down after 1,000,000km running on Mobil 1 and there was no engine wear - that's good enough for me.
