The Honda Civic Vti was the top of the range Civic in those days. I have the EH (4 Door) and I've had it since new. A very reliable car. This example looks pretty good on first impressions, and anyone who installs something like a DVD player has obviously invested some money in their car.

Check the driver's seat for wear (like most seats) on the seat bolster and right hand side.

Check the quality of the custom paint job. Was it done to fix a smash? or panel repair? or just to change the colour?

Check the car's suspension for excessive lowering which will manifest itself in inner tyre wear.

Check for steering alignment/off centre steering wheel?

Check the engine bay for leaks under the sump and gearbox. Also radiator hoses - are they in good condition?

Check the driveshaft boots for splits. Ditto power steering?

Is the exhaust a custom job? Cat back or just axle back?

Can you replace the pod with original parts?

Has it had a timing belt change? When?

Check the boot and wheel well for signs of water leaks (usually around the boot rubber lining). Also check the rear lights for functionality as well as headlights and indicators.

Check carpet for wear (as an indication of age/kms travelled).

These cars are pretty much bulletproof but can be abused. Clutch is usually easy under foot and gearchanges should be smooth, even going back from higher gears under high RPM. The SOHC VTEC is a good little powerplant but listen for rattles, and drive it in reverse to check for unusual noises (high pitched whine). Has engine oil/gearbox oil been changed regularly?

    Hope this helps you out,

    Peter

Thanks very much for the reply JDM_b16a.

I'll have to organise another time to inspect the vehicle, to check all the things youve mentioned.

The main thing im worried about, is that the previous owner has flogged the car a bit, as the current owner said that all the mods were done by the previous owner, and that he's looked after it etc. but with mods such as a short shift kit, and exhaust and intake mods, I'm very sceptical about its previous life...
