Unhappy Yet another P Plate question.

    Hey Guys,

Just Blown my head gasket in my 1993 eg4 civic and was wondering its going to exxy to get it fixed so was thinking maybe why not go v-tec?

    But heres my Issue.

Im on P plate laws and have been told 4 million different things about the v-tec engines.

I love everything about the v-tec and cant wait to get one its now down to the fact am I allowed it?

please no stupid comments as I need to work out my answer ASAP!

hey mate ive got the same issue and no you can;t because youd be modifying your car/engine and that you cant do when your on your p plates in brisbane now, there might have been people saying if you modify your car and keep it under 200kw or buy it off someone its fine, but there wrong. i even askd a officer about it...and they confirmed it.

im sure this will help your decision

    pham.

i guess if you replace the engine with the same displacement, who's gonna know?

Im sure the average dumbass copper wont know the difference.

Your average cop probably wont know the difference. But I think the issue is insurance. If you crash and they figure out the car you are driving has been modified and isn't legal for a P-plater then they will not cover you and you may have a huge debt to repay.

in Sydney NSW the law clearly stats a p later cannot drive a turbo charged, supercharged and certain other high powered 6 cylinder vehicles There is a list on the NSW RTA website. There is no law to say you cannot drive a car with v-tec or even a car that has been engineered for a non-vtec to vtec engine swap. So if you are in Sydney yes you can. I'm not particularly sure about other states tho..

well you could do a vtec transplant but if you crash then youve got a big debt as BURST said above, but if you get a pulled over by a cop that knows how to do his job then you'll get screwed over..

Read the rules carefully and exercise them to your full adantage

It says no vehicle modifications which require a engineers certificate
Ie if you had a 92 eg si for example with a d16a8 DOHC non vtec, swapping to a b16a should not need a engineers cert as you have not increased the displacement but 10% and you ahvent gone from single to twin cam, or carby to efi
