Fuel gauge problem

Hi there,

New to Honda forum... just purchased an Integra Type S, and there is a problem with the fuel reading. Initially I thought it was like one of my Toyotas (i.e. when it is standing facing upwards on a hill the fuel reading drops, and vice versa), but I found that when I parked the car in my garage and started it the next morning, the reading was higher than the night before.

I am not aware if this is an issue that any Integras (2005) have had, and I myself am not going to change the sending unit or whatever, but just wondering if this would be a relatively easy (and cheap!) problem to fix.

Sorry should have mentioned; my garage is level and so is my driveway (and road as well).

the gauges `are fairly slow at reacting,so think back further along your journey home

But that's the thing - in front of my eyes the fuel sometimes increases randomly (like 1 or 2 bars)... so it isn't slow a lot of the times. I actually had a friend who viewed the same thing over my shoulder while I was driving the car.

And the journey home has a relatively even surface - I live in Sydney, but my suburb is relatively flat.

Haha! Yeah well that's a more compelling thought... when I first drove it, only for a 30km stint, imagine my surprise when I saw the fuel meter dropped from halfway to nearly empty!

in that case ,erratic behaviour,u should look further into it,if it does bother u.

the DC5's have some sort of funky new self test function on the gauge cluster u can perform,i vaguely remember it having something to do with multi presses of the trip button or something like that,see if u can google it.

if the gauges do sweep properly then u need to look at the sender unit,which is fairly easy to get too & test.

Hmm... can't find anything about testing it on Google, but I will have a closer look at this tomorrow. Will post on the result. Thanks!

i think that might be the Civic FD that has that test function, could be wrong though

ive seen it done on dc5,cluster lights up & starts beeping at ya like a disco & all the gauges do a full sweep up & back to zero.

i just remember it was prob easier to launch most of the apollo missions than it is to initiate this cluster test,was a wacko sequence of pushing buttons while turning on the ignition

Hi CRX,

Sorry I still haven't figured out the "sequence" to test the gauges... I filled in a full tank yesterday though, and now the car's fuel gauge is not playing up (or maybe it is, because it hasn't moved from "full" at all despite having driven it 50km or so). It's like... I can't rely at all on the fuel meter, and though they generally aren't the most accurate gauges in cars anyway, this is way too inaccurate.
